Broken Pieces Shine è la seconda traccia del quarto album della band Evanescence, The Bitter Truth. This song was heard in Amy Lee's CBS This Morning interview on August 26, 2020 when it showed her working on Pro Tools in her home studio. Nasce da un'idea avuta da Amy Lee e Jen Majura durante una loro giro tra i negozi in Canada nel 2019, come spiegato da Amy in un'intervista con Kerrang! pubblicata nel marzo del 2021:

Ci trovavamo in Canada durante un campeggio tra i boschi nel 2019. Gli uomini andarono a prendere l'attrezzatura musicale che avevamo dimenticato, come il reggirullante e quant'altro, mentre le donne sono andate al negozio di alimentari (ride). Durante il viaggio di ritorno in aiuto, ci stavamo mostrando l'un l'altra qualche idea sui nostri telefoni, alcune piccole demo pre-registrate e roba del genere. Jen ha avuto quest'idea molto bella che si è trasformata in quella melodia dai versi sbuffanti. Ho incominciato a riscriverla e a cantarci sopra più e più volte.

E' una canzone che parla del dolore e la bellezza del sopravvivere, della saggezza che si genera dalla sofferenza, la grazia che può essere trovata nell'accettazione di ciò che è. In tanti modi, Amy Lee ha imparato queste lezioni con le maniere forti:

Vedo Broken Pieces Shine come un inno per noi e i nostri fan che ci hanno seguito fin dagli esordi, ci ho visualizzati tutti sullo stesso palco in quel 'momento di unione'. Ha a che fare con il concedersi di cadere a pezzi, lasciare che quelle imperfezioni diventino le cose che non solo accettiamo di noi stessi, ma che anche accogliamo. Essere te stesso piuttosto che trattenerti è veramente liberatorio. Ci sono cose di noi stesse che potremmo considerare dei difetti, ma basta cambiare solo di poco la prospettiva dalla quale li si guarda – le nostre imperfezioni possono diventare i nostri superpoteri. Sono ciò che ci rende differenti. Ciò che ci rende unici.
