Rock in Rio è il più grande festival di musica rock del Brasile organizzato dall'imprenditore Roberto Medina, successivamente esportato anche in Portogallo col nome di Rock in Rio Lisboa e in Spagna col nome di Rock in Rio Madrid. Gli otto festival di Rio de Janeiro si tennero nel 1985, 1991, 2001, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 e 2011, quelli di Lisbona nel 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 e 2018 e a Madrid nel 2008, 2010 e 2012. Nel 2015 il festival si è tenuto per la prima volta negli Stati Uniti a Las Vegas.

Evanescence performed at the festival in Lisbona on Sunday, May 30, 2004 whilst touring for Fallen. They played before the headliner of the stage, Foo Fighters. Before Evanescence's set, Amy Lee joined Seether on stage to duet on Broken. The entire performance was televised and is available to watch online.

Evanescence performed at the festival in Brazil on Sunday, October 2, 2011 whilst touring for their third, self-titled album. They played on the World Stage before System of a Down and Guns N' Roses. The songs Made of Stone, My Heart Is Broken and Sick all made their live debut at the show. Their entire performance was televised and streamed and you can watch online.
