General information
Written by: A. Lee
The song is described as "a string-and-choir-infused closer distinguished as the band's first truly (almost) contented song" by Evanescence.com.[1] It is decidedly upbeat and showcases an Amy Lee that is letting someone in and who sounds happily in love. She thinks it is the bravest track on the album.[2]
Amy's various descriptions of the song:
I had gone through a lot of difficult things during the writing of the whole album, and by the end of it, I had stepped away from those bad situations. That's really hard. You have to be really brave and strong about it. After doing that, I felt so amazing. For the first time I felt like I could write a song based on how good I felt. I have never done that before ever.[3] |
I think Good Enough is the most inspirational, good feeling, non-Goth song you'll ever hear, but there are people who can't get past their initial perception of our music.[4] |
I think "Good Enough" is the best representation of the new me and it was the last song written for the album, written at the very, very end of the writing process. Actually, we were already in the studio recording and we thought we had all the songs and then that song came out of me. I guess by then, I'd gotten so much out of my system, that I needed to sing, that I needed to write about. I actually had made real changes in my life to separate myself from the negative things that were holding me down. After all the fighting and all the struggle and all the stuff, it was like this calm after the storm and I felt really, really good, better than I felt since maybe my childhood.
"Good Enough" actually came out of feeling good, which is a big first for me because I've always felt like I have to be going through something, struggling with something, to write. Passionate, tragic things inspire my music, but I've realized that I don't have to be sad to write a good song because "Good Enough" I think is a wonderful song. It makes me happy to hear it and it's really funny because for one thing, there are no guitars on it, but for another thing, it's sweet and it's admittedly Terry and John's favorite song on the album. I'm glad I did that.[5] |
The song was inspired by Josh Hartzler, Amy's then boyfriend and current husband (also the inspiration behind "Bring Me to Life").[6] The song was announced the fourth and final single from The Open Door. The video was recorded June 11-14, 2007 in Budapest, Hungary.
The song was added to the setlist of The Open Door Tour (2006-07).[7][8][9][10] It was later played again at the band's Secret Show in NYC on November 4, 2009,[11][12] and at their show in Nashville on August 17, 2011.[13] The song was also played acousticlly at the Legends & Lyrics show in February 2009 (along with "Call Me When You're Sober", "Bring Me to Life", "Lithium" and "Your Love").[14]

Lyrics
Studio, live and acoustic versions
Under your spell again
I can't say no to you
Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hand
I can't say no to you
Shouldn't have let you torture me so sweetly
Now I can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough for you
Drink up sweet decadence
I can't say no to you
And I've completely lost myself
and I don't mind
I can't say no to you
Shouldn't have let you
conquer me completely
Now I can't let go of this dream
Can't believe that I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough
It's been such a long time coming,
but I feel good
And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall
Pour real life down on me
Cause I can't hold on to anything this
Good enough
Am I good enough
for you to love me too?
So take care what you ask of me
Cause I can't say no
US radio edit and shorter acoustic version
Under your spell again
I can't say no to you
Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hand
I can't say no to you
Shouldn't have let you torture me so sweetly
Now I can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough for you
Drink up sweet decadence
I can't say no to you
And I've completely lost myself and I don't mind
I can't say no to you
Shouldn't have let you conquer me completely
Now I can't let go of this dream
Can't believe that I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough
It's been such a long time coming, but I feel good
And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall

Good enough
Am I good enough for you to love me too?
Video
The video for "Good Enough" was recorded between July 11 and July 14, 2007 on Vaci utca (Vaci street) in Budapest, Hungary. Vaci utca is the most famous street in central Budapest. It was directed by Mark Webb and Rich Lee, and produced by DNA.[15]
On July 30, 2007, an unfinished version of the video was leaked on the Internet. That version had the unedited special effects replaced by descriptions on the screen.
The official version of the video debuted during MTV's TRL on September 10, with Amy Lee presenting the video, as it was announced at Evanescence.com.[16]
A day before its official debut, the final version of the video in a wider ratio was leaked on YouTube.
The video can be watched on YouTube.com.
On the book
During the video, Amy writes on a book:
Can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
For you to love me too
I Shouldn't have let you
