General information

Written by: A. Lee, T. Balsamo, T. McCord, T. McLawhorn and W. Hunt

Disappear is the fifteenth track on the deluxe edition of Evanescence's third studio album, Evanescence. On June 5, 2011, Amy uploaded on Twitter a video in which she plays piano notes from a new song, this song was Disappear.[1]

In an interview with MTV, it was stated that working titles for the song were Release the Kraken and Kraken.[2][note 1]

Amy's description of the song in a track-by-track interview on Evanescence's deluxe edition bonus DVD:

Vin1.jpg ‘Disappear’ – I love that song – this is one of... Tim, Terry, and I wrote this one when we were in this actually really cool writing session where the three of us went to the middle of nowhere in California, like in the wine county. I think where we were staying didn’t even have a name, the town we were in. The nearest town was like 20 miles away. We wrote this song in this cliff. We rent this house for, I think, two or three weeks. That was one of the songs that I didn’t know if it was gonna make it. It was very different sound like in the chorus, the way that it sounds. I don’t know, I can’t really describe it, but it’s just a really different style vocally for me. But I loved it. I was just singing, you know, out of fun. It’s cool. It’s new when you start with an idea and you’re not sure about it, but the more you play with the band, it becomes something bigger and better.[3] Vin2.jpg

Amy said this about Disappear in a Rockline radio interview on July 23, 2012:

Vin1.jpg ...Basically, it's about, losing someone, you know, to giving up or an addiction, losing somebody, feeling like they're slipping away and you want them back as a "hey, you can do it, get back up off the floor" kind of song.[note 2] Vin2.jpg

Lyrics

Hollow, like you don't remember me
Underneath everything I guess I always dreamed
That I would be the one to take you away from all this wasted pain
But I can't save you from yourself

Don't you want to feel?
Don't you want to live your life?
How much longer are you gonna give into the fear?
Holding you down until you're frozen
I can't let you fall apart
You don't even know what you've done to me
But I would be the one to take you away from all this wasted pain
If you could just wake up

Don't you want to feel?
Don't you want to live your life?
How much longer are you gonna give into the fear?
Holding you down until you're

All alone
All alone and drowning in your past
Take it back
Take it back, I still believe you can

Don't you want to feel?
Don't you want to live your life?
How much longer are you gonna give into the fear?
I can't go on pretending
So give me something real
No one in your way but you
How much longer are you gonna give into the fear?
Holding you down 'til you disappear...
