General Information

Written by: A. Lee

The song is described as "a string-and-choir-infused closer distinguished as the band's first truly (almost) contented song" by Evanescence.com, the song is reminiscent of the piano ballad Give Unto Me in it's purest form.

It is decidedly upbeat and showcases an Amy Lee that is letting someone in and who sounds happily in love. She thinks it is the bravest track on the album.

Amy's description of the song:

Vin1.jpg It’s totally scary to be so vulnerable when I know however many metalheads are going to diss it because it’s not the exact same thing [as the other songs]. And it doesn’t end with, ‘And then he died’ or ‘I pushed him off a cliff’ or ‘He’s a ghost really.’ It’s so cool to me and weird to me. I’ve never written a happy song, ever. Vin2.jpg

Vin1.jpg I had gone through a lot of difficult things during the writing of the whole album, and by the end of it, I had stepped away from those bad situations. That's really hard. You have to be really brave and strong about it. After doing that, I felt so amazing. For the first time I felt like I could write a song based on how good I felt. I have never done that before ever. [1] Vin2.jpg

Vin1.jpg I think Good Enough is the most inspirational, good feeling, non-Goth song you'll ever hear, but there are people who can't get past their initial perception of our music. [2] Vin2.jpg

The song was inspired by Josh, Amy's then boyfriend and current husband (also the inspiration behind Bring Me to Life).

The song was announced the Fourth Single from The Open Door, the video was recorded 11-14 June 2007 in Budapest, Hungary.

The Narnia song was NOT cut up. The Good Enough intro is NOT part of the Narnia song. Amy Lee confirmed on EvBoards, that the Narnia song is still intact and MAY be a future B-side.

Good Enough was used as both the intro and outro music for the CSI seventh season episode "Fallen Idols".

Lyrics

Studio versions, Live and Acoustic versions

Under your spell again
I can't say no to you
Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hand
I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you torture me so sweetly
Now I can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough for you

Drink up sweet decadence
I can't say no to you
And I've completely lost myself and I don't mind
I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you conquer me completely
Now I can't let go of this dream
Can't believe that I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough
It's been such a long time coming, but I feel good

And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall
Pour real life down on me
'Cause I can't hold on to anything this
Good enough
Am I good enough for you to love me too?

So take care what you ask of me
'Cause I can't say no

Shorter Acoustic Version

Under your spell again
I can't say no to you
Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hand
I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you torture me so sweetly
Now I can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough for you

Drink up sweet decadence
I can't say no to you
And I've completely lost myself and I don't mind
I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you conquer me completely
Now I can't let go of this dream
Can't believe that I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough
It's been such a long time coming, but I feel good

And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall
Pour real life down on me
'Cause I can't hold on to anything this
Good enough
Am I good enough for you to love me too?

Video

Amy Lee playing the piano, surrounded by fire, in the video for "Good Enough"

The video for "Good Enough" was recorded between July 11 and July 14, 2007 on Vaci utca (Vaci street) in Budapest, Hungary. Vaci utca is the most famous street in central Budapest.

It was directed by Mark Webb and Rich Lee, and produced by DNA.[8]

On July 30, 2007, an unfinished version of the video was leaked on the Internet. That version had the unedited special effects replaced by descriptions on the screen.[9] [10]

The official version of the video debuted during MTV's TRL on September 10, with Amy Lee presenting the video, as it was announced on September 5 at Evanescence.com.[11]
A day before its official debut, the final version of the video in a wider ratio was leaked on YouTube.

On the book

During the video, Amy writes on a book:

Can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
For you to love me too
Shouldn't let you (the last line is not clear yet)
