Blind Belief is the twelfth and closing track from Evanescence's fifth studio album, The Bitter Truth. The song ends the album on a note not of doubt, but of hope.[2] Amy explained it in her Kerrang! cover story in March 2021, referencing the COVID-19 pandemic and the US politics:
In a Loudwire interview in May 2021, Amy explained the song:
This is another one that's a little bit in the political zone, or social. Why do we believe what we believe? Why do we do the things we do? Why are the laws that are in place, some of them aren't there for good reasons. Some things are just the way they are because they've always been that way.
And I think we've reached a time where we need to say, "That's not enough. We need to make changes that make sense for how much our world and our awareness has grown, and how we need to be better." We need to improve over time and not just leave things the way that they are. I was actually writing those lyrics, being inspired by the Confederate statues coming down. We can still love our ancestors even if they made mistakes, and we can actually love them better, we can actually do better for our world. It doesn't have to be a betrayal if your grandparents thought differently than you. We can only grow by moving forward and making better and better decisions as the generations go on. And if we want this place to get better, then we need to admit that things are wrong! Saying "We hold the key to redemption" is saying you don't have to stand by something that's wrong. Go ahead and let icons fall! Just because something is the way it is and it's always been that way doesn't make it right. We should be asking those questions, and sometimes change is good. It's nothing to be afraid of.[3] |
On November 19, 2020, the band shared an Instagram story of a string section being recorded for the album, in which the strings of Blind Belief were previewed.[4]

Lyrics
I believe in us
I can't remember why I believe in us
These seeds of the past, they keep springing up
Love begins with trust
But we can't be trusted
Ah, the future starts with us
Blind belief, are you afraid to see
That our fathers were wrong?
We hold the key to redemption
Let icons fall
Dare to break away
Tear down this broken machine
Escape your cage
We're falling to pieces
Ah, the future's rising up
Blind belief, are you afraid to see
That our fathers were wrong?
We hold the key to redemption
Let icons fall
Push through the pain
Unbreak the system
Arms of self-sacrifice
Lay them down
Lay 'em down, lay 'em down, lay 'em down, lay 'em down
Blind belief, are you afraid to see
That our fathers were wrong?
We hold the key to redemption
Love over all
We hold the key to redemption
Love over all
