God's Gonna Cut You Down, conosciuta anche con il nome di "Run On" e "Run On for a Long Time", è una canzone folk tradizionale ed è stata registrata da numerosi artisti di vari generi musicali. Il testo vuole essere un ammonimento ai peccatori che per quanto ci provino, non possono evitare il giudizio di Dio.
Nel 2003, Johnny Cash ha inciso una versione di "God's Gonna Cut You Down" pubblicandola come primo singolo tratto dall'album American V: A Hundred Highways[1] dell'artista Johnny Cash. Di questa versione della canzone venne registrato un video nel 2006 in memoria di Johnny Cash, deceduto il 12 settembre del 2003. Amy Lee ha interpretato una piccola parte in quel video.

Il Video
Al video[2], diretto da Tony Kaye[3] e girato in bianco e nero nel 2006, hanno partecipato una serie di persone famose. Anche Amy ha fatto una piccola apparizione nel video. A tutti gli artisti è stata data la possibilità di scegliere dove essere ripresi e cosa indossare. Amy ha scelto di apparire in un cimitero mentre posa dei fiori su una tomba. Il gesto non fa altro che riprendere il significato principale della canzone: l'ineluttabilità del giudizio divino. La scena è stata registrata alla Trinity Church di Manhattan (New York), con indosso un cappotto nero di velluto appartenuto precedentemente a Tim Burton[4]. Amy ha dichiarato:

E' stata un'apparizione per il nuovo video tributo a Johnny Cash. L'idea è che tutti - Justin Timberlake, Tony Hawk, P. Diddy - siano vestiti di nero come Johnny Cash. Esprimendo così la tristezza di tutto il mondo. Ci hanno detto che avremmo potuto fare qualunque cosa volessimo, così ho pensato 'Perchè non vado in un cimitero e poso dei fiori su una tomba?'. Abbiamo girato la scena alla Trinity Church. E' stato veramente spaventoso. |
