{{quote|The most personal song on ''The Open Door''. "It is about something that's hard to even talk about but feels good to write about" - explains Lee - "It’s about my sister who passed away when I was a little girl. I was six years old and she was three. It's affected my life and definitely affected my music writing, and it's made me who I am. It's one of those things that happens early enough in life that it forms you. I think in a lot of ways I made it a thing that I can use in a positive way in my life. I've learned from it and grown up, and I've always felt older. Twenty-four sounds young to me, it's weird."
Having lost a sister at such a young age put things in perspective for Lee, who says she cherishes making music and wants to love. "What else is there?" she ponders. "I don't care about the stupid things as much as I would if I hadn't been through that. The song is about me from the perspective of a child back then, and I go back to that place a lot of times. I went there and wrote the song that way. It's not the kind of thing that I would normally say on a megaphone in front of millions of people."<br>
"It's something that changes you" - the singer stresses - "I love her, and I will always love her. Her spirit is always with us. I feel like I'll always want to have a little place for her on every record. On the last record, it was '[[Hello]]', and I wrote that from the perspective of a child. I was talking about it in a little bit of a different way, but it's the same inspiration."<ref name=metaledge />}}

General information
Written by: A. Lee
Like You is the eighth track from Evanescence's second studio album, The Open Door.
From Metal Edge magazine:
The most personal song on The Open Door.
It's not the kind of thing that I would normally say on a megaphone in front of millions of people." |
Amy's description of the song:
"Like You" is maybe the most intimate song on the record. It was about losing my little sister when I was a child. On the last record, I wrote "Hello" about her. "Like You" is her place on this record.[2] |
Amy’s sister passed away in 1987 at the age of three from an unidentified illness (Amy's sister's name is omitted out of respect for the Lee family).[3]

Lyrics
Stay low, soft, dark, and dreamless
Far beneath my nightmares and loneliness
I hate me for breathing without you
I don't want to feel anymore for you
Grieving for you
I'm not grieving for you
Nothing real love can't undo
And though I may have lost my way
All paths lead straight to you
I long to be like you
Lie cold in the ground like you
Halo, blinding wall between us
Melt away and leave us alone again
Humming, haunted somewhere out there
I believe our love can see us through in death
I long to be like you
Lie cold in the ground like you
There's room inside for two
And I'm not grieving for you
I'm coming for you
You're not alone
No matter what they told you
You're not alone
I'll be right beside you forevermore
I long to be like you sis
Lie cold in the ground like you did
There's room inside for two
And I'm not grieving for you
And as we lay in silent bliss
I know you remember me
I long to be like you
Lie cold in the ground like you
There's room inside for two
And I'm not grieving for you
I'm coming for you
