General Information
Written by: A. Lee and Alex Seaver
Afterlife is a song by Evanescence, from the Netflix series Devil May Cry, that was released on March 28, 2025. Amy Lee teased the release by posting a video on the band's social media on March 21, 2025. In the video, she did a countdown using hand signals.[1]
The song was originally started by Mako with a "unique direction with melody in the beginning". It was meant to be a solo song, but Amy turned it into an Evanescence song. Production was handled by Nick Raskulinecz and Mako, with additional production by Tyler Demorest.[2][3] Amy wrote the lyrics after watching the series before it was finalized to help get some inspiration.[4] It's a standalone release and will not be part of the sixth album.[5][6]
Amy on the song in an interview with Billboard:

“For me, the song is both the pain and the resolve. From the perspective of someone who has lost so much, and will always carry the marks of that, but also someone who has reached the point of being past the fear. No trepidation, no hesitation in your quest when you have committed to the fight and have nothing left to lose.”[3] | ![]() |
The lyric video featuring exclusive clips from the new series was released on March 27, 2025 at 6am PT - watch it on YouTube.

Lyrics
Hide, before the floodgates open
Can we just lie here until it's all over?
I hear the violence coming, turn and run inside
You build your walls but can't forget the hate you hide
Damned to finally meet you in the
Afterlife
Save me from this pain and fill the hole inside
You wonder why I'm all out of tears to cry
Today I'm not, not afraid to die
Breathe
I think you're finally broken
If we don't die here, we'll always bе haunted
I feel the panic and evеryone watching, lie to me
We've all been used and sold out truth for the sick fantasy
I'm holding onto one belief
I'll see you in the
Afterlife
Save me from this pain and fill the hole inside
You wonder why I'm all out of tears to cry
Today I'm not afraid to die
No one hears me pray for my revenge
Nothing's gonna wash away these sins
I'll bathe in the fire, no more wounds to mend
We all die in the end, but I know who I am
So judge me in the
Afterlife
Save me from this pain and fill the hole inside
You wonder why I'm all out of tears to cry
Today I'm not, not afraid to die
I'm all out of tears to cry
Today I am not afraid to die
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
