Oceans is the tenth track from Evanescence's third studio album, Evanescence.
In an interview with Spin, Amy announced the name of three new songs to be included in Evanescence's third record, among these was Oceans, which is described by Amy as a song "with a big, low synth and a vocal, then the band kicks in. It's big and lush. We've been having a lot of fun playing that one especially."[1] Evanescence premiered Oceans on August 17, 2011 during the live show in Nashville.[2] The song was added to the set list in support of Evanescence.[3][4]
In a track-by-track interview with NME, Amy said:
Oceans is, I think a really cool song with some taste of a new direction. But at the same time it totally claims that Evanescence feeling.
It's got a big cool synthetic keyboard, you know, moog plus we used like 5 keyboards to make that sound. I really like that song because I feel like it's different sounding and I kind of been falling in love with a lot of old analog gear for the last couple of years. So it was fun to get to use those things. Yeah, I just think it's a big epic fun song. Out of all of our songs that was one of the four that we chose to do live when we just had a couple of shows recently. And I think it went pretty good, I liked it, it was fun to play![5] |
In a track-by-track interview on Evanescence's deluxe edition bonus DVD about nine selected songs off the album, "Oceans" is explained:
I love “Oceans”, it’s one of my favourite songs on the record ‘cause it does have a different feel but at the same time it kind of reminds me of older Evanescence when we were writing a long time ago. It kind of resonate with Imaginary a little bit. I love synthesizers now. I love playing with them. It’s so fun. It’s got this big synthesizer sound going on in it. I guess it's a little indulgent.[6] |

Lyrics
Don't wanna be the one to walk away
but I can't bear the thought of one more day
I think I finally understand what it means to be lost
Can't find the road to lead us out of this
a million miles from where we burned the bridge
Can't keep pretending everything's gonna be alright
with the whole world falling around me
Cross the oceans in my mind
Find the strength to say goodbye
In the end you never can wash the blood from your hands
Fallen so far from where we were before
You'll never find what you’ve been searching for
Something to fill the void and make up for all of those missing pieces of you
Like I could only dream to do
Cross the oceans in my mind
Find the strength to say goodbye
Everything that we believed in was a lie
Cross the oceans in your mind
Find a way to blur the line
In the end you never can wash the blood from your hands
And we never learn
so we fall down again
heaven help me find a way to dream within this nightmare
Cross the oceans in my mind
Find the strength to say goodbye
Everything that we believed in was a lie
Cross the oceans in your mind
Find a way to blur the line
In the end you never can wash the blood from your hands
