General Information
Written by: A. Lee
Contrary to popular belief, Amy Lee did not write this song as a joke.[1] The reason people thought Amy wrote this song as a joke is because Renée Gray (Rocky Gray's wife) commented on the song, saying:
They did write a song " This is the last song I'm wasting on you" , but it was more for a joke. I will let Amy post all this stuff as it gets closer to the album coming out... |
In an interview with Spin she hinted that the song was dedicated to Ben Moody.[2] In a later interview with Metal Edge, it was revealed that the song was a planned B-side.[3] It features Amy's solo, un-layered, vocals with a very simple piano track. Some very experimental vocal work is heard throughout this song. This is Evanescence's longest song title.
This was the first post-Fallen song that fans heard about. It was heard about in the April 2004 issue of Blender:
Two nights ago, she finished a new song during sound check in Auckland, New Zealand. The track is tentatively called 'The Last Song I'm Wasting on You.' She utters a giggly laugh. She won't say who it's about.[4] |
The song was released as a bonus track on iTunes when The Open Door album was released (the album had to be pre-ordered from the website) and was soon spread around the Internet. The song was also released as a B-side on the Lithium Single.
According to Amy, the real lyrics for the second line are "they're my own veins" and not any other variations of lyrics that some people used to believe.[5]

Lyrics
Sparkling grey
They're my own veins
Any more than a whisper
Any sudden movement of my heart
And I know
I know I'll have to watch them pass away
Just get through this day
Give up your way
You could be anything
Give up my way
And lose myself
Not today
That's too much guilt to pay
Sickened in the sun
You dare tell me you love me
But you held me down and screamed you wanted me to die
Honey you know
You know I'd never hurt you that way
You're just so pretty in your pain
Give up my way
And I could be anything
I'll make my own way
Without your senseless
Hate
Hate
Hate
Hate
So run
Run
Run
And hate me
If it feels good
I can't hear your screams anymore
You lied to me
But I'm older now
And I'm not buying baby
Demanding my response
Don't bother breaking the door down
I found my way out
And you'll never hurt me again
