Synthesis is Evanescence's fourth studio album that was released on November 10, 2017. The album contains reworked music from their previous three albums and two new songs - all that focuses primarily on the orchestra and electronica elements.

Amy first hinted information about Synthesis on a Facebook Q&A on February 29, 2016 when a fan asked her a question about remaking Evanescence material;

Vin1.jpg Actually I do have a cool idea to remake some Ev stuff in a different way...can't give it away yet! Hold tight![1] Vin2.jpg

No further information was revealed until Amy was interviewed on AOL's BUILD series on September 30, 2016, when a fan asked Amy where she would like to aspire to get to;

Vin1.jpg We have some new little plan in store, but I don’t want to give it away yet. But there is some new Evanescence stuff that we’re starting at, but it’s not exactly the most traditional thing. It’s not just ‘Okay we’re going to make a new album right now’, not that that’s not coming, but first there’s something else that’s a little bit special and different and it’s going to take you down a different path that we want to try. [2] Vin2.jpg

On February 13, 2017, Evanescence's publicists at Mercenary Publicity released a statement saying that Amy is in the studio working on new Evanescence music that's expected to be released later in 2017.[3] Although Amy didn't confirm whether this was true or not.

Amy attended a second interview on AOL's BUILD Series on March 20, 2017 to talk about Speak to Me from Voice From The Stone. When asked if there was more solo music coming out, Amy said that her next focus will be on Evanescence.

Vin1.jpg We're working on something right now, and it's not quite the right time to tell you exactly what it is. It's a new album, but it's not just a straightforward 'Next Evanescence album', it's something else. So just manage and prepare yourself for what you're waiting for to be something different. I had this crazy, hairbrained idea two years ago and finally have all the people around me that are like 'Let's make that happen'.[4] Vin2.jpg

On May 10, 2017, Amy uploaded a video to Evanescence's Facebook account, revealing that the "special project" the band are working on is Synthesis.

Conception

Amy Lee announced the new album project, "SYNTHESIS", by uploading a video to Evanescence's official Facebook profile on May 10, 2017 entitled: Album announcement: SYNTHESIS [5].

Amy explained that the reason for the title of this album is

Vin1.jpg due to the combination, the contrast, the synergy between the synthetic and the organic. Also the past and the present. Vin2.jpg

Amy further explained in the same video announcement that

Vin1.jpg this album is about about orchestra and electronica. We're taking our music, stripping out the big distorted guitars, stripping out the rock drums, and we're replacing it with full orchestration in a completely synthetic world of beats and sounds. We've gone through our entire catalog of music and picked out the songs that are made to be heard in this way, and we are sewing them together from the ground up. This isn't a remix - we're not pulling things out and putting it out - we're starting from the ground, up. With different tempos, different parts, with intros and outros, segues, and new pieces. Putting this all together like one big piece of music - like one big classical piece - or sort of like a soundtrack actually. In a lot of ways it sounds like the soundtrack of my life! Vin2.jpg

Amy also stated

Vin1.jpg in addition to the all the Evanescence songs that you already know, there are also going to be two completely new and original compositions. Vin2.jpg

The orchestra, which will be a full orchestra (meaning woodwinds, brass, strings harp, etc...) will be directed by Campbell, David, who arranged the string pieces for Fallen, The Open Door and Evanescence (self-titled album).

There will be a tour with a full orchestra. This tour is called Synthesis Live and has dates in North America and Canada in 2017 and dates in 2018 for Europe and the UK.

It is rumored to be released around November 10, 2017 according to an interview that Amy Lee gave to the British site The Sun[6]

A new era begins. A new album is on the way.
