General information

Amy at the War Story panel after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Written by: A. Lee and C. Palmer

"Lockdown" is a song written by Amy Lee and Chuck Palmer for the 2014 movie soundtrack, War Story.[1] During an interview with a fan site, Dave Eggar described the song as "amazing" and said that it will be heard during one of the most dramatic moments of the film.[2] "Lockdown" is featured on the official trailer for War Story.[3]

"Lockdown" is included on Amy's soundtrack album Aftermath, which was released on August 25, 2014. Three days before the release of the album, Amy shared a 43-second snippet of the song on her YouTube channel.[4]

When asked about her favorite songs on the soundtrack, one of Amy's picks was "Lockdown":

Vin1.jpg "Lockdown" is definitely one of my favorites because it happened the way I wanted it to happen. It started with a loop, we started building stuff and I felt myself get into a vibe and I just started making it by myself in my studio. And it’s not that that’s different, that’s the way a lot of my songs are born, a lot of Evanescence songs are born. But usually, we get a demo, change it completely in the studio, so that’s the place that I’m coming from a lot of the time. I feel like I’m creating something like that in the studio, and we go down a bunch of different roads with it, get a big producer and get the band and everything goes and it sounds awesome and it sounds huge but I still find myself listening to the demo because there is something special about it. So it’s cool to be able to have that pure thought. I love "Lockdown" because it has a lot of freedom, it doesn’t stick exactly to the structure of verse, chorus, verse chorus. I feel like the chorus has a real departure from the rest of the song. By surprise, it takes a left turn and I love when that happens. I love listening to it because you kinda get two songs in one.[5] Vin2.jpg

Lyrics

Album version

I can feel you calling me
I can see the cracks between these walls
But this pain
I choke on the words as they rise in me
To survive, I lock down

I can feel you calling me
I can taste the poison in your heart
But these dreams
Blurring the line between war and peace
To survive, I lock down

Say the words
I can’t face the world
If I could say the words
Everything would be broken still
We are broken

I can feel you calling me
I can see the cracks between these walls
But this pain
I choke on the words as they rise in me
To survive, I lock down

Say the words
I can’t face the world
If I could say the words
Everything would be broken still
and I know why
(Lock down)
