On December 20, 2010, Amy Lee posted on EvThreads thanking all the birthday wishes she received from fans and saying that she has high hopes for 2011 and that she, Terry and Tim were making music "in the middle of nowhere on the Northern California coast" where there were no cellphones and the nearest town population was 300.
Unfortunatley, this was delayed because of difficult times for record company, Wind Up, and the sound the band were making was not to their standard, causing them to abandon their journey in the studio.

The album was going to be produced by producer Steve Lillywhite, but Amy clarified that he "Just wasn't the right fit."

The album will now be produced by Nick Raskulinecz, famous for producing music for Alice In Chains and The Foo Fighters.

Wind Up Records released a statement confirming Evanescence would be returning to the studio on April 11, 2011 to record their latest material.

Early official announcements were made in regards to a followup to 2006's The Open Door where Amy herself had noted that she has begun writing material and the third album was expected sometime in 2010.

"We're currently working on new material that I'm extremely excited about. I believe that to make great music you have to give yourself the freedom to evolve. I don't see the point in making the same record twice, so I always want to challenge myself to make something better, stronger, and more interesting than before. That takes time, but it's worth the wait for me. Hopefully, it will be for the fans too. Look out for new music next year..."[1]

In later posts on EvThreads as of 2009 she gave a vague indication of what new material for Evanescence could sound like and the album process.

"I don't want to give away too much about what it will sound like, because so much will change before the end, but its... not what you would expect. Its definitely not happy married music, but its not like I'm dying the whole time either. Its dark, sarcastic, fun, strange, familiar and very different at the same time."[2]

"There's been a lot of writing going on this summer and I'm starting to get really excited. My good friend Will happens to also be a great producer, writer and programmer (lucky for me!) and we've been slaving away at some pretty interesting stuff lately... I'm not giving anything away just yet. Terry and I have been working together this week at my place just like old times and life is pretty good"

On January 8, 2010 Amy Lee made an announcement through Twitter that the band would officially be entering the studio to record their third album in February 2010. [3]
