General information

Written by: A. Lee and M. Wandmacher

Speak to Me is the end title theme song for the independent movie, Voice from the Stone. Amy Lee wrote the song with the movie's score producer, Michael Wandmacher.[1]

It was announced that Amy was working on a song for the film when the official Twitter account for Voice From The Stone posted a photo of Amy recording in the studio on August 13, 2015.[2]

They recorded the song at Skywalker Ranch in Nicasio, California, which is well known for being the workplace of film director, George Lucas, who worked on blockbuster films Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park.[3] It was orchestrated by Susie Seiter.

In an interview with Collider, Amy explains that she was approached by the movie's director, Eric D. Howell, about writing a song for the film[4]:

Vin1.jpg ...And this one came from the fact that the director (Eric Howell) thought of me specifically for it, which is awesome. He was like, “I just have a vision that it could be really cool, if you wanted to make a song for my film.” And I was like, “Okay!” And then, he let me see it. That’s how it started. He wanted me to check it out to see how I felt.. Vin2.jpg

In the same interview, Amy said she watched an unfinalised version of the movie, and loved it:

Vin1.jpg So, I watched the film and loved it. It’s so beautiful. And when I first saw it, it wasn’t finished. The score was in demo form and it hadn’t been edited, all the way. They were still working on it, but I felt so many feelings, with this beautiful romance happening, and it being very suspenseful and scary, and also just very beautiful. Vin2.jpg

On November 17, 2017, Eric D. Howell posted on Twitter that Speak to Me won Best Original Song - Independent Movie at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.[5]

Fans tried to promote the song to The Academy for consideration of Best Original Song at the 2018 Oscars, but unfortunately, the song wasn't nominated.

Lyrics

Be still, my love
I will return to you
However far you feel from me
You will never be alone
I will always be waiting
And I will always be watching you
Speak to me
Speak to me
Speak to me

I can't let go
You're every part of me
The space between is just a dream
You will never be alone

I will always be waiting
And I'll always be watching
We are one breath apart, my love
And I'll be holding it in 'till we're together
Hear me call your name
And just speak
Speak to me
Speak to me
Speak

I feel you rushing all through me
In these walls I still hear your heartbeat
And nothing in this world can hold me back
From waking through to you

We are one breath apart, my love
And I'll be holding it in 'till we're together
Hear me call your name
Just believe and speak
Speak to me
Speak to me
Speak to me

Be still, my love
I will return to you
