Childish Intentions cassette is a demo cassette recorded by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, with the label "Childish Intentions" as pictured in Ben's post in 2013. He called it the "first demo ever". The cassette features three tracks: "Solitude", "Understanding", and a track titled "Track 3".[1] It is possible that it is a copy or version of the cassette Amy tweeted about in 2010, as they are similar in appearance and contain a similar track listing. In 2010, Amy called this cassette Evanescence's first "professional" recording.[2][3] Amy did not name a Track 3, but the appearance in the photo suggests it. The name Childish Intentions was a temporary name used by Amy and Ben before they decided on the name Evanescence, and before the creation of the logo.

Ben said, "I love the juxtaposition of such methodical melodramatic titles to the refusal to put forth any effort whatsoever in to the naming of Track 3."[1]

Solitude and Understanding were re-recorded for the 1998 Evanescence EP, as the recording of Solitude was not multitrack, and couldn't be used as an instrumental (The End). It is possible that the version of Understanding on this cassette is the EP outtake/acoustic version, as they were recorded around the same time, although it is much likely an earlier recording that has not been heard.

Track listing

  1. "Solitude"
  2. "Understanding"
