I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry is a song written and recorded by the US songwriter Hank Williams in 1949. The song is about loneliness and it was mostly inspired by his troubled relationship with his wife Audrey Sheppard. Many artists covered this song; among them are Johnny Cash and Nick Cave, in the American IV: The Man Comes Around album (2002), the last album published by Cash when he was still in life; he would pass away the following year some months after the loved wife June Carter Cash.
During the "We Walk The Line: A Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash", held on April 20, 2012 in the Moody theater of Austin, in his memory, Amy Lee covered the song[1]. The exhibition was filmed and was released, along with the full concert, in a DVD[2] on August 7, 2012.
The version sung by Amy during the concert features slightly different lyrics (in the second stanza she sings "I'm so lonesome I could cry" instead of "To hide its face and cry" and in the third one she changes "hear" into "see"). Musically her version is closer to Hank WiIlliam's than to Johnny Cash's.
