Everybody's Fool single

General Information

Written by: A. Lee, B. Moody, and D. Hodges

Carrie Lee’s fascination with pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was the inspiration for the song. Amy Lee said that Carrie, 8 at the time, started to dress as those two superstars and that it angered Amy. It is track #3 and the fourth single off of Fallen.

The video, directed by Philip Stolzl, is a live action video that portrays the life of a glamorous superstar (played by Amy Lee) who is really unhappy with the way she portrays herself in the media. She sells Lies consumer products (perfume, pizza, and soda). Towards the end of the video she expresses deep regret for selling Lies in the first place. The video was filmed in Los Angeles in mid-April 2004.

Lyrics

Everybody's Fool - Fallen version
This version starts with acoustic guitar

Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame, don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending

But now I know she
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

Without the mask where will you hide
Can't find yourself - lost in your lie

I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore

It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
Somehow now you're everybody's fool

Everybody's Fool - Demo 2002 version #1

Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame, don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
Too bad we didn't know she
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

[David vocal sample]
The dynamic of symmetrical social riots
Can be summed together in broad statements
That what has become blueprint for all
And all have been reduced to the space of one

It never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled
It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
Somehow now you're everybody's fool

Everybody's Fool - Demo 2002 version #2

Perfect by nature

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame, don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
Too bad we didn't know she
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled
