XERXES II Edits
I've finished going through all of the articles. I did my best to correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, line spacing, awkward phrasing, dead links, images on the left and without captions, incorrect or incomplete quotations, and needed citations.
The only thing I am uncertain about is what I did with the Live in Cologne page. The old links were dead. I replaced them with the complete concert, which I would defer to you to determine if that is allowable. --XERXES II 19:32, 3 December 2006 (PST)

I'm nominating the page Forever Gone, Forever You for movement back to the page Forever You. I wonder, why it was changed??? (Gyakusetsu 1/3/2006 24:35 MST)
- I originally moved it because the predominant opinion that I read around the Internet was that the title is "Forever Gone, Forever You." I just noticed (d'oh) in the history of the article that DhammaSeeker has it on better authority as "Forever You." I took care of it. --XERXES II 9:07, 4 January 2007 (PST)
Article for deletion
The article Evanescenceturkey should be deleted, becuase it has nothing to do here. It's not an official Evanescence website and the content of it (the article) is subjetive.
"The Best Evanescence website" ???? Armando 19:15, 13 January 2007 (PST)
- Agreed. Article deleted. --DhammaSeeker 08:59, 14 January 2007 (PST)
References
Hi,..are the References enabled?? Armando.O (talk|contribs) 08:46, 16 January 2007 (PST)
- I'm a mediawiki n00b. Can you please link to a page describing them or explaining how to enable then and I'll happily do that if it's not a security risk. --DhammaSeeker 14:54, 16 January 2007 (PST)
- I know how to use references/citations and I could copy the citing templates from Wikipedia, but I don't know how to enable those cuz I've never had a wiki :S Here's the Wikipedia page of the references. Wikipedia:References Armando.O (talk|contribs) 15:37, 16 January 2007 (PST)
Hey Armando - This is a test.[1] Is this what you were asking about? --DhammaSeeker 10:28, 18 January 2007 (PST)
- Yeah..It's excellent. Please, delete this Template:Cite web, because it doesn't work in this wiki...I dunno why :S.Armando.O (talk|contribs) 11:48, 19 January 2007 (PST)
- Done! --DhammaSeeker 12:15, 19 January 2007 (PST)

A little thing...Your archived discussion was too small to be archived. Armando.O (talk|contribs) 17:58, 20 January 2007 (PST)
- I'm going to sound stupid here, but what? --DhammaSeeker 11:41, 22 January 2007 (PST)
I mean, your talk page must have like 20 topics or be very long. (30-50 kbs) Armando.O (talk|contribs) 20:25, 22 January 2007 (PST)
- I think Wikipedia or whoever elses rules besides Dhamma's don't apply here. Relax. --XERXES_II 7:49, 23 January 2007 (PST)
I was just a suggestion for Dhamma, not for you. Armando.O (talk|contribs) 11:21, 23 January 2007 (PST)
- Ahh - I just like a clean talk page. Mostly so I will be able to keep things straight as to what needs answering. --DhammaSeeker 19:24, 23 January 2007 (PST)
re: Automata Magazine
Hey, There are two versions of an article about issue 3.0 of Automata Magazine. The more recent one Automata Magazine is more descriptive and accurate (i know because i own a copy of the magazine) so could you please delete this inaccurate old one Automata Version 3.0 --Never Be Good Enough
- All done! Next time, though, please just modify the original page and ask for a title change (if necessary). Thanks!--DhammaSeeker 07:50, 25 January 2007 (PST)
- Sorry. Even thogh the old page was made ages ago it was only added to the A-Z after i made the new page. Before they added it i didn't know the old one existed. Thanx for deleting it. --Never Be Good Enough
Contributing Communities
Would you mind adding Sound-Asleep.net to the contributing communities? Annie, the webmaster of that site, has been helping extensively (especially with the discography sections) and should deffinitely be on the portal.—Gyakusetsu 13:54, 2 April 2007 (PDT)
- All done! Thanks for the suggestion! --DhammaSeeker 14:31, 2 April 2007 (PDT)
SVG File Format
I think it's better if we upload the logos (in Fonts and Logos) in .SVG format... It's so much better because it's vectorial... if they're not available in that format I can make them available... Well, I was trying to upload a file in this format, but it said "SVG Format is not recommended"... But I still think we should... It's maybe due to the image handler... Wade, which image-handler did u install? I mean, ImageMagick is the recommended for wikis, do you have it? Please, if you can, change it... Let us know.. Thanks... --Gerard Armando 22:40, 11 August 2007 (PDT)
Main Logo
I was messing around with the 'e' logo and decided to make a somewhat more accurate 'e' logo for the EvReference. This is what I came up with. Any suggestions or ideas for something different than that? —Gyakusetsu 01:35, 17 July 2007 (PDT)
- I just uploaded the new logo. Looks nice! Thanks! --DhammaSeeker 10:34, 29 August 2007 (PDT)
Contributing communitites
Hi! I have a question: How is a community considered as a contributor? I mean, is it in financial terms? --gt 10:52, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
- It's really community that has more than one member actively adding and maintaining the information on the wiki. It's certainly not tied to anything financial. --DhammaSeeker 13:42, 15 September 2007 (PDT)
Portuguese?
Hi, DhammaSeeker.
I'm from Amy Lee Brasil Team [1], a brazilian ev fan site. I noticed that someone is translating everything to spanish. I'd like to know what you think about the idea of translating everything to portuguese.
Evanescence has A LOT of fans in Brazil, and also Portugal. The fans would be SO happy.
Thanks for the attention, and sorry for my bad english. [and don't worry! I'm not the one who's gonna translate it! xD]
See you.
Mariana [.paperflower.]
- Fine by me. Gerard Armando said you had asked. Just use the same /language format (like /pt) that we've been using for the other translations. --DhammaSeeker 20:20, 13 October 2007 (PDT)
Greek pages management
Hi! I've started translating everything to Greek, but there's still an issue...
First, I just want to inform you that the whole project has been started from me with the help by the Greek Fan Club of Evanescence. I play the role of the "guide and leader" in that project. This means, many people in the fan club translate the articles and I edit them (add wiki code etc) and put them in EvRef.
I wanted to ask, is there any way for me to be able to lock important pages in greek (such as Template: News/gr) in order to prevent misinformation? I mean, it would be great if such pages were locked and edited only by me and the people I trust. Naturally, the whole thing is about the greek pages only....
Hope to receive a response soon :) --gt 05:28, 19 October 2007 (PDT)
Multilanguange
Hi! i was searching some MediaWiki extensions and I found this... http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MultiLanguageManager, but I don't know if it would be Ok cuz there is a problem mentioned at the bottom of the article. Armando.O (talk|contribs) 18:33, 26 October 2007 (PDT)
HELP
Hello,
My name is Ana, I'm talking from [2], a brazilian website called Immortal Essence, and I'd like to contribute with the Evanescence Reference in The Art of The Open Door and Fake Discographies.
The material of The Art of The Open Door was made by me and a friend of the site, Ramon, and his book of psychological symbols. It's an old book, I don't have the bibliography right here with me, but if the text here were interesting, I can send to you later. So, we wrote about the meaning about the images in The Open Door booklet, and discussed a little on FieldsOfInnocence forum. It's not an official information, like we don't know nothing from the art designer of Wind-Up, but what fans do is still worthfull, isn't? And those images are in the official Ev page. So let's go:
Above each lyric, there's a different image. They are analogous to the lyrics. In Sweet Sacrifice, a moth, like butterflies, represent what is called "You poor sweet innocent thing". In the psychological symbols of dreamings, the butterfly represents freedom, like in "Now that I'm unchained"; in the christian symbolism, the butterfly is on the one hand ressurection and immortality and on the other empty vanity and triviality, due to its short life and beauty. The meaning of the butterfly is, however, on its metamorphosis, from egg to caterpillar and from chrysalis, stuck in strict death, to insect with wings and shining colors turned to the sunlight. So in the antiquity, it was already a symbol of the soul, because it doesn't end with the death. The part of the song that represents this hole symbolism is at the end, when the choir sings "I dream in the darkness, I sleep to die, Erase the silence, Erase my life, Our burning ashes blacken the day, A world of nothingness blow me away". In Call me When You're Sober, there is an ant. With the Weight of the World and Lithium lyrics, an umbrella reminds protection, something that doesn't let other things to touch us, like in the parts "Like all my screming has gone unheard" and "If you love me, then let go of me" from Weight of the World and "Don't wanna lock me up inside" and "Can't break free until I let it go - let me go" from Lithium. The umbrella reminds so Mary Poppins, that used it to fly "Freefall, freefall, all through life". In Cloud Nine, there is a bird, analogous to freedom and linked to the parts "If you want to live, let live" and "I just want to feel that high". In Snow White Queen, according to the inspiration for the song, a cage fence the unique bird (Notes and References: [3]). There is adoring and illness in the lyric - "There's nowhere to run", "Soon I know you'll see you're just like me" and "Don't scream anymore, my love, 'cause all I want is you". In Lose Control lyric page appears a lamb, explicit quoted in the lyric, "my lamb". In The Only One, there is a mithologic animal, the Griffon, that lays golden eggs and has a great justice sense (Notes, References and Images: [4]); this is the representation of the wonder, and so it is well connected to the hole song, including the title. In Your Star, appears a LUNETA, instrument used to see stars and planets far from Earth - "I can't see your star". In All that I'm Living for, the key symbolizes the part "Lock the last open door". And, in Good Enough, the necklace with the heart pendant shows all the love where the song is drown. For the digital version of The Open Door, the Lacrymosa and Like You lyrics have special images too. They represent the hole song - a teardrop in Lacrymosa and a coffin in Like You (Notes, Reference and Images: [5] and [6]).
One correction need to be made, like I didn't found the correct translation to LUNETA, the image in the Yor Star lyric page, the lens used to see the stars :P And about CMWYS, the ant, we really don't understand - can it be a forum on EvThreads? ;D The Mary Poppins was reminded by AeternusAmatorius, user of the FieldsOfInnocence forum, who also gave me the digital pics.
Then we've got something about a Fake Disco. In various websites last year, in portuguese and some in spanish, a CD called In The Shadows was distributed, a link to download, with old Evanescence songs recorded on this. This rumor OK is like off course false, some songs don't have the correct name and the Understanding live performance may have grown the possibility of this release. The images we've found in google - [7] and [8]. This information is too general, so maybe it can't be in the EvRef 'cause of the copyrights.
And after those stuffs, I'd just like to say sorry for our english, that's it. If it's needed to change some lines, we'd be glad anyway! Is there a possibilite to Immortal Essence be part of the Comunnities here? Please answer about this e-mail to immortalessence@gmail.com
Thanks, Immortal Essence BRASIL
- I'll be happy to add you to the list of contributing communities. Please add your information and edits to the pertinent pages in the wiki. Thanks! --DhammaSeeker 21:29, 28 January 2008 (PST)

Controversy
Hi Dhamma, here is Ana talking about some bad things that I've noted started to grow all over the articles.
When I asked you if I could be part of the contributing communities here, I was really carefull about all the things that I could or not change and the stuffs that could really improve this wiki, like my first contribution, The Art of The Open Door. The translation into portuguese is something really slow because me and Raphael (the other brazilian guy helping), you know, have a life. But I've understood since the beggining the importance of being real here, to take down legends and to show to anyone how big fans we are.
The problem is that the free thing, the free account, is making problems to the ones that look for a source here. Besides the spammig problem, there are controversy informations in some articles, like the old doubt about the beggining of Good Enough, if it is part of Together Again, and the Imaginary from Mystary having the Fallen Tourniquet end or not.
You know, people can edit and they do, I'm just reporting something that I don't know if the adms know. Some fans don't read the whole conversation in old topic foruns, they just get a thing in a fansite and start doing the cultural spam. It is not something that we can control in fact, because it is part of the freedom that the internet gave to us, and those things from Richard Dawkins... Sorry, I'm not trying to be intelligent or anything else, but what I mean is that this kind of free-problem is natural, but we can solve here. My suggestion is that the articles get an "approvement". If the editted text gets confirmed by someone that knows the truth, it can be on air. My suggestion is kinda hard because, I know, adms have a life too! I can't seem to find another solution, wish I could.
I hope all the adms can solve this problem, sorry for the long text.Immortalessence 18:52, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- This IS a problem, but that's why admins and mods are here... We're ready to correct any mistaken text that is written on the pages. As far as spamming is concerned, the problem grows bigger and bigger. Unfortunately I had to delete 5-6 pages in three days because they were irrelevant with the Evanescence Reference and its object. I'm afraid there's nothing we can do.
- I'm sorry to say that I don't agree with this "approval system" you're suggesting, just because the staff don't know everything. We're not able to know everything about Evanescence. We let anyone write whatever they want and then we check if the information is valid or not.
- But if we think that some info is invalid and someone else knows that it's 100% valid, there will be no ability to learn from them that it is valid, so the info is totally lost. I hope you understand what I'm saying... --gt 16:58, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your thoughts, Ana/Immortalessence. You state the problem well. An open wiki has many benefits while at the same time having many drawbacks. I have agree with gt though. Approving content changes before they are published would create an undue burden on the admin staff and potentially put a chilling effect on those wanting to make contributions. If we see someone has added controversial or debatable content to a page, perhaps an edit should be made making it clear that the information is controversial or debatable while leaving in the user's contribution. On the topic of spam, if it's becoming unwieldy again, perhaps we need to look into implementing some kind of higher scrutiny before new accounts are activated? --DhammaSeeker 17:28, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- I really appreciate your answers, I'm really glad :) So, I've got the problem with the approval system. It is something that I haven't thought already, and I agree now with you both. In fact there is a "system" to solve this, that are the Talk pages. No one gets there, really. It is good in a way because it has not to be a forum but today it gets just stuck. I mean, we need a kind of add poiting to the Talk pages, but not one that makes it a forum. Is it a good idea if we create a page with reportings, like Reporting Articles where we, common users, can list the topics and the reason why we are posting them to this? Maybe it can have a link to the Talk page so it gets more constant in our minds. Can it be a good thing? Well, I just hope that won't start the not-kind conversation that we use to see in foruns. Maybe we should use the [citation needed] more times. And the higher scrunity about the spams are good! Immortalessence 19:53, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
