That progression includes bits from some of our earliest music, including Whisper, which was one of the first songs we ever recorded and anyone ever heard from us.

This song, from our second album, The Open Door, is built around the classic Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem K.626. Mozart's music is one of the inspirations of our sound, and this is our homage.

This is the first piece of music written specifically for Synthesis. It is inspired by the dream-like, upwards climbing in the middle section of the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

This song is special for a lot of reasons. One of our oldest compositions, it's part of the exploration that shaped the core sound of Evanescence. It has never once left the live setlist.

After 10 years in the vault it is our pleasure to finally bring this song into the light. It was the first creative collaboration with Will Hunt (Spaceway), Synthesis producer and programmer. After a decade of not quite fitting in, it finally found its rightful home on this project.

Like the reminiscence of Whisper in the Overture, this piece begins with slowly evolving memories of songs that didn't make their way onto Synthesis in full. (See of you can guess which.) The repeated note in the low register of the piano that begins in the second half of the piece goes from being on the downbeat, to the upbeat when the melody jumps in between the notes, and becomes the dominant part, defining the repeated note as the pedal point. So the title of the piece refers not only to the fact that it is an instrumental that comes in between two songs, but also that the melody lives, somewhat unexpectedly, in between those repeated notes. - Many thanks to AllyEv, on Twitter, for helping with this!
