Nine Inch Nails

Nine Inch Nails is a band that heavily influenced Amy Lee through her teenage years and when starting Evanescence. In an interview with Rolling Stone on April 1, 2004, she says that their album, The Downward Spiral, helped get her through the hard times:

It's very self-destructive and 'there's no way out.' Which I don't believe, but sometimes it feels really good to hear someone say that instead of listening to people be like, 'Oh, c'mon, it'll be fine!

In an interview with Metal Hammer on May 23, 2017, Amy included the same album in her list of "The 10 Records That Changed My Life" in the category "The Album I Wish I Made Is...":

That’s a hard question! Oh man, The Downward Spiral. I want so many things out of music, but if that was my record... I could sing that whole thing and be very happy. I have all of NIN’s records, but ...Downward Spiral is my favourite.
