Amy Lee has confirmed that Evanescence will begin writing and recording new material in 2019.

In two seperate interviews with AOL's BUILD series in 2016 and 2017, Amy Lee not only hinted about Synthesis, but also that a new album after that is planned and that they will be active throughout the next few years.[1][2] During a press conference in Ecuador, Amy said that the band plan to "make another full, true Evanescence album after [Synthesis]".[3]

When the band were interviewed in Finland in June 2017, they were asked if they had any new music for the next "completely new" Evanescence album, to which Amy and Tim responded:

Vin1.jpg Amy: Yeah, we have a couple of ideas already started that I think we'll go towards that, yes. We've had a couple of songs sort of in the bank since, I don't know, the last go-around. We had a lot of songs that didn't make it on the last album, so there's a couple there to kind of draw from. And in addition to that, whilst writing for [Synthesis], as there are some various new songs on it, some of them weren't the right fit stylistically, but I think they're really good, so I think that might be the next thing.

Tim: We're also always musically making things individually all the time. So by the time we get together to do the next one, we're going to have a big head start with a pile of stuff to go through and work out.

Amy: Yeah, you are working on something right now, right? In the hotel room?

Tim: I've got like ten things going on right now.[4]

In Kerrang! Magazine issue K!1694 which was released on October 24, 2017, Amy said that the band will "expect" to head in to the studio later in 2018:

Vin1.jpg I'd expect we'll be heading into the studio later next year. I know we've got a good handful of songs to start with already. At that, Synthesis isn't any indication of where we're going. I like contrast. In my life I don't go for that much drama, so I wanted to play this up and really go crazy with the orchestra. But, if anything, this could be the opposite of what the next album might sound like. It might be really nice to go raw on the next album, to [focus on] the band again.[5] Vin2.jpg

When Will Hunt was interviewed by Walls of Sound in Australia in February 2018, he mentioned how collaborating for Synthesis has helped the band "broaden [their] horizons" for the next record.

Vin1.jpg I think that Synthesis has certainly been a different process to that record, but ultimately what I’m excited about is the next one. What this one has done is broadened our horizons. Added different colours to our palette, and we’re all aware of and are able to use those colours, because we’ve all been involved in making this. One of the coolest parts of that is for the next record, it's opened up a lot of different doors that we maybe wouldn't have explored.[6] Vin2.jpg

In Kerrang! Magazine issue K!1717 which was released on April 11, 2018, Amy Lee said that there is no official timeline for Evanescence to begin recording their fifth studio album, but confirmed that it is still planned for the future.

Vin1.jpg (Amy's response to when she's asked if another new Evanescence album is in the future) That's the plan. That's what we're planning on. The reason that I say it like that is because I don't have a timeline right now. I'm bad when it comes to planning ahead. I really need to not feel trapped, and at the end of every project I feel like I badly need a break. I just need to get to the point where I'm ready to pour myself into the next project.

We're on tour in Europe now and then in the summer we'll be back on tour in the U.S., so we are busy. Evanescence is active. But I've never been that kind of person that plans what's coming next when I'm in the middle of the thing that I'm doing at the moment. I need to have time to recharge, and then I'll know what the future holds.

In an interview with Loudwire which was published on August 14, 2018, Amy confirmed that a brand new Evanescence album will be the next project after the band have taken a break from concluding their Synthesis Live tour. She said that the band will get together to begin writing some time in 2019.

Vin1.jpg We're going to take a little bit of time, but the next thing we're going to focus on creatively is just the next full Evanescence album. That's the plan. I just like to keep us finishing this tour a little open-ended, like let's all just breathe through the end of the year, and then we'll start writing next year for the next thing.

I think as a band, we're all in a really good place with each other. I've been with the guys -- Will, Troy and Tim -- now for over a decade. Jen's the new kid on the block but she brings a lot of positivity and energy to the group and we're excited for her to be with us. We're all happy together and we make a great team and we're excited to make more music together.[7]

When Amy Lee and Lindsey Stirling were asked what's coming up in the future, Amy mentioned how she's ready to rock again.

Vin1.jpg It’s been good for me to be able to continue with Evanescence in a way that’s not the way we always have, because I don’t feel burnt out on rock. I just become what I’m doing when I make an album and it’s such a consuming experience – writing, creating, recording the album and then going on tour for the album for a year or more. By the time you finish that whole cycle, for me personally, usually I’m just tired of any heavy music. I just need a break. You get to a point where it’s like “I need something else.

But this time is different.

I feel inspired, and I’m kind of ready to rock because it hasn’t been that style so much. It’s in there but it’s not the same, so I don’t feel like I need to run away like I sometimes do at the end of our tours. So I don’t know exactly how it’s going to inspire the next album. Actually I think it could be a little bit of the opposite. I think we’re all ready to let the pendulum swing the other way.[8]

In Kerrang! Magazine issue 1744 that was released on October 17, 2018, Amy mentioned how she's working on a collaboration idea, but she's not specified if it's for solo work or for the next Evanescence album.

Vin1.jpg Interviewer: Do you feel like you have any creative itches left to scratch?

Amy: I don't think you're born with a set of itches that never change, that you scratch and then you die. I think you keep developing new ones. The itch continues, for sure. I've only been home for a week and I'm already working on a little collaboration idea. I do feel creatively inspired, but with a very open mind. We're planning on starting the writing for the next Evanescence album next year, so yeah, we're moving forward. It feels good to make music right now. I don't have a big vision, but in the moment, when you feel creative, you just do it and see what it sounds like, following that trail until you're satisfied.
