Em uma entrevista com a NME.com, Amy disse o seguinte sobre a música:

"Ela foi uma das primeiras que vieram naquela sessão de improviso da banda há um ano atrás. E sei lá, nós estávamos realmente animados com isso imediatamente. Às vezes você entra em uma sala com um grupo de pessoas e tenta escrever uma música juntos e simplesmente não funciona. Quanto mais cérebros tem trabalhando, mais direções começam a ficarem separadas. Aquele foi um momento muito legal porque senti como se estivéssemos descoberto que estávamos na mesma página. E para essa formaçõa, nós podemos escrever músicas juntas desse jeito. E aquilo foi muito animador para mim, porque, novamente, isso não é o que eu estou acostumada e isso não é o que tenho feito em minha vida. Então, quando escrevemos Sick, foi tipo um experimento que não sabiamos se daria certo ou não. E lembro que estávamos muito animados no fim disso, porque amamos essa música. Eu acho que aquele foi o momento em que estávamos tipo: 'Sim, podemos fazer isso, vai ser divertido.'"
