General information

Written by: A. Lee, B. Moody and D. Hodges[1]

Origin is the first track from Evanescence's demo album, Origin (2000).

It is a 35-second intro with sampled sound effects, whispered words and quotes taken from the 1958 movie My World Dies Screaming (also known as Terror in the Haunted House), that was used on the Evanescence EP version of Understanding and on the Sound Asleep EP version of Whisper. The intro then fades into the electric guitar of the next track on Origin, Whisper.

The intro is merged with the Origin version of Whisper on the Automata Magazine 3.0 compilation CD, released in 2001.

The third demo version for Haunted features this track at the beginning and then fades into the first demo of Haunted.

Lyrics

I'm sure it's getting darker
Don't close your eyes
Don't make a sound
Don't make a sound

You hold the answer deep within your own mind
Death in its most hideous form
