General information

Written by: A. Lee, J. Hartzler and J. Lee

If You're a Star is the eleventh track and the second single from Amy Lee's children's album, Dream Too Much.

The audio video was exclusively debuted in an article by Huffington Post on September 22, 2016. Amy explains how her husband, Josh Hartzler, helped write the song;

Vin1.jpg My husband and I both sing to Jack all the time, making it up as we go. Josh came up with the beginnings of this song. I asked him if I could take what he did and turn it into a whole song ― which was really fun. One of my favorites.[1] Vin2.jpg

Lyrics

The stars are shining bright
And I wonder what they're seeing
Can they see me watching them?
Stars come out at night
I wonder if they're ever sleeping
I wonder if they're dreaming

How do you sleep at night
If you can never turn off your light?
How do you sleep at night
If you're a star?

The Earth is beautiful at night
Fireflies are dancing
Listen to the crickets sing
Fireworks ignite
Exploding in a rainbow
Making all the trees glow

How do you sleep at night
With all the magical things inside?
How do you sleep at night
If you're a star?

We need stars to show us the way home
And help us to see in the dark
If you're feeling lonely just look up high
They're with you wherever you are

It's time to say goodnight
But the stars are busy listening
'Cause everybody's wishing
I wish I may, I wish I might
That the stars will know I'm grateful
They're so very faithful

Thank you for all your light
And making the world so bright
But how do you sleep at night
If you're a star?

Video

The music video for the song was exclusively revealed by Entertainment Weekly on the album's release day. Amy explains the concept of the video:

Vin1.jpg The video is meant to illustrate that we’re never alone, that we’re not so different, all across the world. All you have to do is look up to remember that we are all under the same very big sky, maybe even wishing on the same star.[2] Vin2.jpg
