Evanescence's fifth studio album is as yet unconfirmed, but heavily hinted from the band that they will begin recording new material after the Synthesis era.
As of May 2019, Evanescence's fifth studio album is currently in the writing process as confirmed by Troy McLawhorn and Tim McCord on their Instagram pages.

In two seperate interviews with AOL's BUILD series in 2016 and 2017, Amy Lee not only hinted about Synthesis, but also that a new album after that is planned and that they will be active throughout the next three years. During a press conference in Ecuador, Amy said that the band plan to "make another full, true Evanescence album after [Synthesis]".

When the band were interviewed in Finland in June 2017, they were asked if they had any new music for the next "completely new" Evanescence album, to which Amy and Tim responded:

In Kerrang! Magazine issue K!1694 which was released on October 24, 2017, Amy said that the band will "expect" to head in to the studio later in 2018:

When Will Hunt was interviewed by Walls of Sound in Australia in February 2018, he mentioned how collaborating for Synthesis has helped the band "broaden [their] horizons" for the next record.

In Kerrang! Magazine issue K!1717 which was released on April 11, 2018,  Amy Lee said that there is no official timeline for Evanescence to begin recording their fifth studio album, but confirmed that it is still planned for the future.

In an interview with Loudwire which was published on August 14, 2018, Amy confirmed that a brand new Evanescence album will be the next project after the band have taken a break from concluding their Synthesis Live tour. She said that the band will get together to begin writing some time in 2019.
Amy has mentioned that the new music will go back to it's rock roots and that they've got some ideas in the bank for the record. This includes previous songs that didn't make it to the self-titled record and Synthesis. There is currently no confirmed release date.

On October 14, 2019, the band posted some videos on their Instagram story in the studio recording their cover of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, and it's currently unknown whether the cover will feature on the new album.
