Evanescence's fifth studio album is as yet unconfirmed, but heavily hinted from the band that they will begin recording new material after the Synthesis era.

In two seperate interviews with AOL's BUILD series in 2016 and 2017, Amy Lee not only hinted about Synthesis, but also that a new album after that is planned and that they will be active throughout the next three years.[1][2] During a press conference in Ecuador, Amy said that the band plan to "make another full, true Evanescence album after [Synthesis]".[3]

When the band were interviewed in Finland in June 2017, they were asked if they had any new music for the next "completely new" Evanescence album, to which Amy and Tim responded:

Vin1.jpg Amy: Yeah, we have a couple of ideas already started that I think we'll go towards that, yes. We've had a couple of songs sort of in the bank since, I don't know, the last go-around. We had a lot of songs that didn't make it on the last album, so there's a couple there to kind of draw from. And in addition to that, whilst writing for [Synthesis], as there are some various new songs on it, some of them weren't the right fit stylistically, but I think they're really good, so I think that might be the next thing.

Tim: We're also always musically making things individually all the time. So by the time we get together to do the next one, we're going to have a big head start with a pile of stuff to go through and work out.

Amy: Yeah, you are working on something right now, right? In the hotel room?

Tim: I've got like ten things going on right now.[4]

In Kerrang! Magazine issue K!1694 which was released on October 24, 2017, Amy said that the band will "expect" to head in to the studio later in 2018:

Vin1.jpg I'd expect we'll be heading into the studio later next year. I know we've got a good handful of songs to start with already. At that, Synthesis isn't any indication of where we're going. I like contrast. In my life I don't go for that much drama, so I wanted to play this up and really go crazy with the orchestra. But, if anything, this could be the opposite of what the next album might sound like. It might be really nice to go raw on the next album, to [focus on] the band again.[5] Vin2.jpg

When Will Hunt was interviewed by Walls of Sound in Australia in February 2018, he mentioned how collaborating for Synthesis has helped the band "broaden [their] horizons" for the next record.

Vin1.jpg I think that Synthesis has certainly been a different process to that record, but ultimately what I’m excited about is the next one. What this one has done is broadened our horizons. Added different colours to our palette, and we’re all aware of and are able to use those colours, because we’ve all been involved in making this. One of the coolest parts of that is for the next record, it's opened up a lot of different doors that we maybe wouldn't have explored.[6] Vin2.jpg
