Dream Too Much (song)

General information

Written by: A. Lee and L. Lee

Dream Too Much is the second track and the lead single from Amy Lee's children's album, Dream Too Much. Amy admits the lyrics of the song are “nonsense”, but were inspired by her son, Jack [1].

The lyrics for Dream Too Much came right out of his mouth! I was just sitting on the couch with an acoustic guitar, and Jack was running around the room in a circle saying hilarious nonsense (not unusual!). So when he yelled out “monkey in the band,” I sang it back to him. Then, “the muffins are sleeping!” and I sang that too. After a few lines I thought, ‘hey, that could be really cool, to make the verses just crazy imaginative stuff he’s thinking about.’ I’m keeping it that way![2].

Lyrics

There's a monkey in my bed
The muffins are sleeping
And the tigers in the sand, oh no
Well, the grapes keep raining down
And everyone is eating
But another train is rolling into town

There's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much
There's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much

It's a very windy day
At the bottom of the ocean
And the sandwiches you made of flew away
But the jellyfish helped you build
A watermelon tower
And the station master smiled as if to say

There's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much
In dreams you can do anything you want to
In once in a while you have dreams that come true
Swim through the clouds till you land on the moon
When you do, dream of something new

Cause there's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much
There's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much

There's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much
There's no way you can dream
Way you can dream
Way you can dream too much
Keep on dreaming

Video

As for the colorful "Dream Too Much" video, Lee decided to tap into her longtime affinity for stop motion animation, enlisting a professional to bring her own drawings and artwork to life in the enchanting clip[1].

And Lee, making the entire collection a visual album, as whimsical videos are being produced to accompany each of the record’s upbeat tracks[1].
