[[David Hodges]] sings backup vocals on the [[Origin]] version. The original (EP) version is more of a confessional setting, with organs in the background, whereas the Origin version uses electronic sound effects and has a quicker tempo, almost giving the song a dance-beat. The vocals on the Origin track are also smoother, with changed lyrics.

The song was recorded during the 2001-2002 demos. This song seems to have a similar meaning as [[Anywhere]]. It is about a couple trying to escape or leave somewhere.

Recorded during the 2001-2002 demos and revamped as a B-side on the Australian [[Bring Me To Life Single|Bring Me To Life Commercial Single]] and later released as a bonus track on the CD portion of [[Anywhere But Home]] (the track can also be heard during the ending credits of the live performance). Has been internationally released as a radio single in Europe and South America in 2004.

According to [http://exodusevanescence.com Exodus Evanescence], here is the explanation behind the layers of vocals in Missing:
{{quote|Throughout the verses there is a looped background vocal of Amy whispering "can you stop the fire? please.. please.. please.." and "you can't stop the fire" on the LEFT audio channel plus "can you stand to fight her" and "you won't say the words" on the RIGHT audio channel. But on the later version of the song there is only "please... please..." on the LEFT audio channel and all the other lines on the RIGHT audio channel.}}

There's has been a supposed ''"Radio version"''. Some people have said that this is an official version, but the only download available is a ''mono'' track with poor sound quality and has lead most to believe that it's a fan edit.

With the release of [[Anywhere But Home]], the bonus track, Missing, was released internationally to radio stations for airplay and not released for public sale (though it quickly found its way on eBay). The single had elaborate artwork akin to the cover of [[Anywhere But Home]] that made the disc highly collectible.
