Amy Lee (born December 13, 1981 in Riverside, California) is the co-founder and lead singer of Evanescence. Her family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, Rockford, Illinois, and finally stopped in Little Rock, Arkansas. Responsible for many of Evanescence’s hard hitting lyrics and is the main songwriter on the new album, The Open Door. Amy provides the image for the band and does most of the interviews. Ben Moody discovered Amy Lee’s voice in summer camp in 1994 when she performed a few lines of Meatloaf’s "I'd Do Anything For Love." After that, the rest is history. She is currently one of the most popular and sought after voices in music today.

Image
Lee has a trademark neo-goth style, marked by her use of gothic make-up and taste for Victorian-styled clothing (her favorite era of time). She dyes her hair jet black though her hair is actually darkish brown. Her eyes are greyish blue but she is roumored to use blue contacts. She also designs many of her own clothes, including those worn in the music video for Going Under and the dress she wore at the 2004 Grammy awards. After she designed it she chose Japanese designer H. Naoto to make it for her, although she does sometimes make her own clothes. In concerts, she often wears a corset and fishnets. Amy used to have a notable piercing on her left eyebrow which she has taken out and had re-pierced a few times, but she took it out for good sometime in mid-2005.

Many fans praise Lee for her refusal to emulate other celebrities by using sex appeal in her music. She has stated on a number of occasions that she would never flash her breasts or engage in other publicity stunts that would draw attention to herself. In fact, in the music video for Everybody's Fool, she aimed to mock such artists by suggesting celebrities who use sex to appeal to an audience are, in fact, merely peddling "lies" (the unifying theme of the music video). <ref name=VH1>Moss, Corey.
In her personal life, she enjoys being a girl. Her clothing style is quirky and marked by her frequent use of not-so-goth clothes (she stated in an interview with AOL that she was wearing "something floral" ). She explains it as a professional thing, saying that her image onstage is so different from her normal clothes because it completes the image; if she were to come out onstage in pink boots and a track suit and sing about despair, it would totally ruin the image.

Out of the Shadows
In 2005, Amy became a spokesperson for the Epilepsy Foundation and launched a campaign called Out of the Shadows. The goal is to help spread awareness about epilepsy and to encourage people to not discriminate against people with epilepsy. This campaign is important to Amy, as well as her family, because her younger brother has epilepsy and she has seen first hand the effect it has.

Other Appearances
In 2000, Amy sang guest vocals on David Hodges' songs 'Breathe' (The Summit Church: Summit Worship CD) and unreleased song of his called 'Fall Into You'.

She did back up vocals on Big Dismal's song 'Missing You' off of their 2003 debut release CD, Believe.

Did some vocals on the Underworld soundtrack in 2003 but after some issues with her record label her voice was never used. Her name still appears in the credits though.

Amy is featured on Seether's song Broken. The song was released as a single in 2004 and can be found on The Punisher soundtrack and on Seether's Disclaimer II album.

She appears on Korn's 2007 MTV Unplugged album on the track 'Freak On A Leash'. The song was also released as the first single.

Tools of the Trade
On tour, Amy uses a Baldwin baby grand piano with a keyboard insert; A baby grand piano shell with an electronic keyboard instead of a physical piano on the inside. She also uses a stand-alone Baldwin keyboard and Shure Microphones.

MySpace
Amy Lee does not have a MySpace page. There are several impostor MySpace pages claiming to be Amy Lee. They are not real. <ref name=myspace>Lee, Amy.
Written by: A. Lee, B. Moody, and D. Hodges

Developed during the 2001-2002 demo sessions and later released as track #5 on Fallen. Based on a story written by Ben that served as an inspiration for Amy to write the lyrics.

Ben Moody’s Story about Haunted

A little girl around 8 or 9 in a little white Easter dress is walking down a neighborhood street bouncing a little red ball. As she approaches an obviously deserted large house with a sinister demeanor, her attention moves from the ball to the house. Not paying attention to her bouncing, the ball hits the curb and ricochets toward the house. As she chases the little red ball toward the house, the ball picks up unnatural momentum and bounces right into the huge gaping front door. The little girl pauses for a moment, looks up at the house, which now appears to be staring down at her, and cautiously enters the house in search of her little red ball. as she slowly walks into the atrium, she surveys the decaying mess that once was obviously a beautiful mansion. She becomes mesmerized by the exquisite detail of every inch of the banister winding up the seemingly endless staircase in front of her. Suddenly her thoughts are broken by a horrifying commotion. She whips around to run out the front door, but finds only a blank wall where the door once stood. Frightened, she runs down the first hallway she sees, trying desperately to find a way out, but with every turn the world behind her changes, bending to the will of the house, so that even finding a path back to the atrium where she began becomes impossible. Terrified, the little girl sinks into a corner, puts her head in her hands, and weeps.

10 years later....

The little girl wakes up in a panic, now a young woman. Dirty, scarred. She's now clothed in black pants, work boots, and a black wife beater. Her skin is pale and dirty. Sun has not graced her flesh in over a decade. She wakes to find a meal placed on a dirty silver tray before her, just enough to sustain life, just like every morning before. Placed there by a figure she can only see in passing, around a corner, walking through a door.... a figure that has become her only friend, and her only hate. Her entire existence has become nothing but to hunt and destroy this shadow that keeps her here. As she hunts him relentlessly day after day, she becomes lost in the dichotomy of her being. This thing that keeps her here, this person that repeatedly rapes her mind and watches her when she sleeps, has become her only friend. For is this person left, she would cease to exist. For she live only to kill him. But lives only FOR him. Every day the house changes around her, so that every day she wakes in a foreign land. The only constant... is him. She hears his heart beating, she smells him, she can only think of finding him, but he is also the only thing she knows of love. <ref name=history>Moody, Ben. === Fallen and Demo Version #2===
Long lost words whisper slowly to me
Still can't find what keeps me here
When all this time I've been so hollow inside
I know you're still there

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you, loving you
I won't let you pull me down

Hunting you I can smell you - alive
Your heart pounding in my head

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Saving me, raping me
Watching me
Written by: A.

I know you're still there
Amy's description of the song:

"Terry uses a lot of delay and noises. His guitar playing is really creepy! He also uses a lot of half-step two chords, which I love. I felt like I wasn't really allowed to use stuff like that before, because Ben didn't like it. But songs like "Lose Control" go from C to a C sharp, back and forth. I love those. It's that Portishead influence." <ref>C. Bottomley. You don't remember my name
I don't really care
Can we play the game your way?
Can I really lose control?

Just once in my life
I think it'd be nice
Just to lose control, just once
Amy Lee says that this song is about loving someone so much that you’d bring them back from the dead. 1 of 5 pre-Fallen songs to ever be played on radio (the other four are Lies, Understanding, the earliest demo version of Whisper and Give Unto Me). Only pre-Fallen song ever performed live on radio.

Ben's quote about the song from Metal Edge article:

"That was so long ago...I was like eighteen, and we just found this little loop thing, and we just thought it sounded really cool and crazy and we thought it would be really cool to build a song around it. Then, one day, Amy and I thought about someone who’s in a relationship, they lose their loved one, and they kind of flip out, and they go and dig them up, kind of like [Tom Petty’s] "Mary Jane’s Last Dance" – We kind of thought we’d take that one step further."

Amy's quote about the song from the same magazine:

"It’s interesting – I don’t understand why, but it’s more sexual, not necessarily in the lyrical content, but just in the feel of the music for me, the song seems really sexual. I have no good reason for that, but that has always been that song for me, it’s cool because that song is kind of different. The song wasn’t written from life experience, it was basically just a cool story."

Lyrics
Album Version
Give me a reason to believe that you're gone
I see your shadow so I know they're all wrong
Moonlight on the soft brown earth
It leaves me to where you lay
They took you away from me but now I'm taking you home

I will stay forever here with you, my love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on

Some say I'm crazy for my love, Oh my love [my love]
But no bonds can hold me from your side, Oh my love
They don't know you can't leave me
They don't hear you singing to me
I will stay forever here with you, my love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on
And I can't love you, any more than I do
Amy Lee says that this song is about loving someone so much that you’d bring them back from the dead. 1 of 5 pre-Fallen songs to ever be played on radio (the other four are Lies, Understanding, the earliest demo version of Whisper and Give Unto Me).

And I can't love you, any more than I do

I will stay forever here with you, my love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on
And I can't love you, any more than I do
