It was chosen to be released in the upcoming third album, but when recording sessions were stopped, the song was discarded and remained on the backburner for 7 more years. The song was first announced in a ''Spin'' interview in March 2010;

In an article by Revolver, they published that musician and violinist, Lindsey Stirling, makes a guest apperance on the song.<ref name="revolverhilo" /> Amy Lee confirmed it was true in an Evanescence Q&A on Facebook, making it the second Evanescence song ever to feature an external artist (the first being [[Paul McCoy]] on [[Bring Me To Life]]).

On August 14, 2017 Evanescence posted to their official website the Synthesis Live fall tour pre-sale announcement as well as giving fans notification that all ticket buyers would be getting a download of their new stunning rework of ''Bring Me to Life''. Evanescence also would be making it available to all fans for digital purchase/download and streaming on August 18, 2017.

Amy interviewed with TheresaRockface on iHeart Radio about ''Bring Me to Life (Synthesis)''. She explains that Bring Me to Life was an "instant grab". In the same interview Amy states that {{quote|it's really cool for me to hear ''Bring Me to Life'' and feel excited about it again. It's a new song to me now.}}

[[Bruce Fitzhugh]] of Living Sacrifice provided the male vocals on the ''Origin'' version and [[Stephanie Pierce]] provided the female backup vocals (soprano) for this version. Later, this song was remade with Amy and [[David Hodges|David]]'s vocals, and different lyrics.
This is the strongest [[Evanescence]] song, with heavy guitars and drums in it. It is one of the shortest titles of all [[Evanescence]]'s songs, sharing this feature with "[[Sick]]".

Amy Lee became inspired to write the song after an incident that occurred while she was sitting in a restaurant.

But I was hiding it. I was being completely abused and I was trying to cover it up; I wouldn’t even admit it to myself. And he looked at me and said, 'Are you happy?' And I felt my heart leap, and I was like, he totally knows what I'm thinking. And I lied, I said I was fine. Anyway, he’s not really clairvoyant. Amy said in a VH1 interview what the song is about: "Open-mindedness. It's about waking up to all the things you've been missing for so long. One day someone said something that made my heart race for a second and I realized that for months I'd been numb, just going through the motions of life."<ref name=vh12003 />

In an October 2006 interview with ''Blender'', Amy said she wrote "Bring Me to Life" about her long time friend (now husband), Josh Hartzler.<ref name=backinblack />

It was the second single off of the [[Daredevil Soundtrack|''Daredevil'' soundtrack]] (Fuel's "Won't Back Down" was first) and the first single off of ''Fallen''. "Bring Me to Life" became the #1 pop song in the country the week of June 13, 2003, only to be replaced a week later by Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent". The song features [[Paul McCoy]], the lead singer of 12 Stones.

The song was originally intended to be without the male vocals when Wind-up felt that it was best to put a male vocalist into the song for the ''Daredevil'' soundtrack. The version that featured Paul McCoy stuck.

The beginning of the orchestra intro for the song (Live In Cologne) is the part where Paul starts singing: "All of this time I can't believe..." and Amy sings: "I've been sleeping..." in an instrumental version. After this part follows by Amy singing: "Bring Me to Life". This intro can also be heard in the background of the ''Fallen'' version of the song.

The sample used throughout the demo versions and some live versions of the song is "Riff 01" from Sony's Futurist Drum 'n' Bass loop series. The sample was replaced with a piano playing a variation of the same note sequence in the ''Fallen'' version.

"Bring Me to Life" was played on the band's Fallen and The Open Door Tours.<ref name=pegasuslose /><ref name=dailyutah /> It was performed at the Lyrics and Legends concert in Nashville on February 23, 2009,<ref name=upvenue /> followed by the performance at the band's secret New York gig on November 4 in the same year.<ref name=blabbersecret /><ref name=stonesecret /> It was later played as part of Evanescence's Evanescence Tour in 2011-12.<ref name=hollywoodsoph /><ref name=take40 />

Amy said in a Capital FM Radio Interview on June 11, 2003 that they recorded about five different demos, one of which had different lyrics:

The video is a live performance/action video and was directed by Philip Stolzl. The video was filmed in Romania in January 2003. It features Amy in a night gown and barefoot, in her room, inside a tall building in the city at night. The rest of the band, and Paul McCoy, are playing on a higher floor of the building. She climbs out of the window of her room and begins to climb the building, passing many windows while venturing to the window that featured the room with the band and McCoy. Right before the bridge of the song featuring a duet with both McCoy and Lee, Lee ends up falling off the building but managing to hang on to the ledge that she was standing on. McCoy pulls open the window and tries to save her, but can't, and amy falls off the building. At the very end of the video, we see Lee back in bed again: it was all a nightmare. I understand that YOUR copy has a distinctive difference from the information available online about Origin.

However, the problem is that you claim your different CD is a '''"PRE"'''-release. There have been several different pieces of info regarding Origin and its copies, bootlegs and so on. Yours is just another one, but nothing you've showed here so far can actually prove your CD comes from a batch produced BEFORE the official release on Nov. 4th. That is what "pre-" means: "before".

So far, there has been no official confirmation from any reliable source that Origin has had any "pre-releases", "UK releases", "radio broadcast only releases", etc (as I lovely explained in the "Identifying True Copies" section from the Origin article). So, TheMaster, please don't upload anything here regarding a pressing of the CD which was not proven authentic by any known and reliable source. You can do whatever you want at Discogs (as you have already done - I noticed) but there is a no-man's-land.

Here, in a REFERENCE page, you've gotta have something more than conviction to legitimize a copy of the CD which is known to have several different bootleg pressings (each one closer to the real deal than the previous one) but all of which can be identified by the information I posted there in the "Identifying True Copies" section (IFPI/SID codes, lettering and writings on the inner foil ring, hue of the cover, etc).

Within 7 billion people in this vast world, do you really believe you're the one lucky human being who ended up possessing the one and only copy of the (highly bootlegged) Origin and it HAS TO BE a "pre-"release which no one else has ever heard of? You seem to forget that the producer of the CD, BigWig employees and other reliable sources have CONFIRMED Origin was realeased ON NOVEMBER FORTH and not an hour before. So, if you've got a 'new' copy of the CD and you truly believe it is authentic (despite all the evidence suggesting otherwise), then come up with a SOURCE to back you up. Analyzing the CD in a computer program is merely incidental. That does not prove it is authentic, let alone that it is "pre"-whatever.

Please, remember that up to now, the information regarding the mastering, recording and so on was gotten by people who questioned and interviewed Brad. So, ANYTHING which differs from that should be considered rumor or info related to bootlegs. If the one responsible to produce the CD has stated something, then it should be considered canon and the official source needed to change things here. Dear The Master, let me be VERY didatic here so you can understand things:

First of all, it is not a matter of "agreeing with" or disagreeing. Here is a REFERENCE page. It is not a no-man's-land like Discogs. There, anyone can edit whatever they want to their own benefit. Here, there is at least some commitment to the truth. Have you realized what you've been doing? You come here and totally dissatisfied about the fact that your copy of Origin doesn't have all the features of an authentic one create some non-sense about a PRE-RELEASE edition. However, if you have some information like this, you need to back it up with EVIDENCE that it is not only genuine but also belonging to a batch prior to the release of the real deal Origin. Then, you kind of support your facts by bringing up ideas which simply do not apply to Evanescence. We all know SOME OTHER BANDS have pre-release versions of their stuff without IFPI/SID codes and so on.

But Brad has ALREADY stated that there have been (as mentioned in the main article... have you actually read it all?) 2 different batches of Origin... the X0 and the N1 ones. NOTHING apart from these two batches is really authentic. You certainly are not the first one to be frustrated because you spent your precious money buying something unauthentic. I myself have been exactly in the same situation before. What I cannot do is come here, with my release which CLEARLY doesn't belong to any of those batches and try my best to legitimize it just because. For the sake of the money I spent on it... Do you see? That is what you have been doing.

Of course your version has different "properties" than the real deal CD. It is a different CD!! What would you expect? Obviously there are gonna be several differences if the CD you own is absolutely different from the real deal 2500-copies authentic Origin! Having a different cut or sound quality or something like this doesn't prove anything, dude!

Let's for a moment give you the benefit of the doubt: if you truly believe your copy of the CD is authentic, then what you should do is scan it in HD, provide a perfect rip of it and meanwhile try your best efforts to get in contact with Brad or someone able to answer you some critical questions (which can probably ONLY be answered by Brad himself or David, maybe as Amy, for instance, has already shown she doesn't remember much about the techinical and burocratic part of the production of Origin). Then IF (and ONLY "if") someone like them actually CONFIRM there has been another batch other than the X0 and the N1 ones, then you can check ---> IF <--- your copy belongs to that recently discovered old batch. The only negative side about it all is that it has already been confirmed that there were no pre-releases, UK releases and/or other batches other than the ones I previously mentioned. So, for all we know so far, ANYTHING other than those 2 batches is a bootleg.

First of all, it is not a matter of "agreeing with" or disagreeing. Here is a REFERENCE page. It is not a no-man's-land like Discogs. There, anyone can edit whatever they want to their own benefit. Here, there is at least some commitment to the truth. Have you realized what you've been doing? You come here and totally dissatisfied about the fact that your copy of Origin doesn't have all the features of an authentic one create some non-sense about a PRE-RELEASE edition. However, if you have some information like this, you need to back it up with EVIDENCE that it is not only genuine but also belonging to a batch prior to the release of the real deal Origin. Then, you kind of support your facts by bringing up ideas which simply do not apply to Evanescence. We all know SOME OTHER BANDS have pre-release versions of their stuff without IFPI/SID codes and so on.

But Brad has ALREADY stated that there have been (as mentioned in the main article... have you actually read it all?) 2 different batches of Origin... the X0 and the N1 ones. NOTHING apart from these two batches is really authentic. You certainly are not the first one to be frustrated because you spent your precious money buying something unauthentic. I myself have been exactly in the same situation before. What I cannot do is come here, with my release which CLEARLY doesn't belong to any of those batches and try my best to legitimize it just because. For the sake of the money I spent on it... Do you see? That is what you have been doing.

Of course your version has different "properties" than the real deal CD. It is a different CD!! What would you expect? Obviously there are gonna be several differences if the CD you own is absolutely different from the real deal 2500-copies authentic Origin! Having a different cut or sound quality or something like this doesn't prove anything, dude!

Let's for a moment give you the benefit of the doubt: if you truly believe your copy of the CD is authentic, then what you should do is scan it in HD, provide a perfect rip of it and meanwhile try your best efforts to get in contact with Brad or someone able to answer you some critical questions (which can probably ONLY be answered by Brad himself or David, maybe as Amy, for instance, has already shown she doesn't remember much about the techinical and burocratic part of the production of Origin). The only negative side about it all is that it has already been confirmed that there were no pre-releases, UK releases and/or other batches other than the ones I previously mentioned. The following images are original concept art produced by MonstorGraphix and Adrian James. The disc is a scan, but only because original vector-based artwork doesn't begin to resemble the actual disc. These are as accurate as images of this disc can get, and are gently watermarked to discourage bootlegging.

The insert is a tri-folded demi gloss, light-medium weight paper with one side of color images and the reverse side of grayscale. The tray insert is single-sided. The piece of plastic that the disc sits in is opaque.

In the front of the front insert can be noticed a latin text from the Bible, Romans 6:4:<ref name="notetr" group=note />

In 2003, a "re-release" of ''Origin'' came out supposedly under the label 'Epic', although it was, in fact, a fake CD. It contained most of the tracks from the real ''Origin''; however, different versions were used with some tracks, . In the case of "[[Whisper]]" and "[[My Immortal]]", the ''[[Fallen]]'' versions were used. The audio portion of the CD was very poorly produced, and in most cases, the songs were either corrupted or of low quality (as if downloaded as an MP3 and then burned on the CD). This bootleg has very elaborate and professional looking artwork, with a silk screened, factory pressed CD and a fold out booklet with a small biography (which mostly rambles on about the 'Christian band' controversy). The CD contained 'Bonus Tracks' such as "[[Missing]]" (which is very corrupted and of extremely low quality), the Nirvana cover 'Heart-Shaped Box', and a [rather bad] trance remix of "[[Bring Me To Life]]".The CD itself has a red silkscreen with black bird design with the word "sorry" on it. The jewel case has a gothic red design with a speckled face on the back along with the track listing. The inside tray artwork has an image of the band (the one from the booklet in ''[[Fallen]]''). The cover has a skull design that is similar to the actual album released by the band. The most noticeable difference is the [[Fonts and Logos#The Evanescence Logo|Evanescence Logo]], which is pointy and unlike any design officially released by the band. On the back artwork the fine print/credits are actually copied from the back of ''Fallen''.

The authentic artwork, distinctive CD numbers and tracklisting—right down to the hidden outtake track — are all present and in (apparently) extremely good quality. There is some speculation that someone from [[Bigwig Enterprises]] is producing these items because of their immaculate authenticity, but this cannot be verified. Either way, these bootlegs are saturating the online auction market and making it nearly impossible to acquire a real copy of the album. They usually sell for around $40-$60 on eBay.

Despite the several different releases found in database websites like ''Discogs'' and ''Rate Your Music'', there were only TWO true pressings of the authentic Origin. The first batch was produced a few days before its release date (something around the end of October/2000) and the second one probably in January/2001.

The first one is composed of 1000 copies of the CD with the code ''CRT BWE0002 N1222M'' in mirrored form on the inner foil ring. The second batch is composed of 1500 copies of the CD with the code ''CRT BWE0002 X0A21C'' also in mirrored form on the inner foil ring. Each batch has its own set of 2 IFPI codes, which can be used, ultimately, as an actual proof of its authenticity (or not) in case one is trying to verify it. All other Origin releases available which don't own all these features should be considered bootlegs.

===Identifying True Copies===

Having a reasonably limited first pressing, Origin is highly sought-after by collectors and fans of the band. However, the longer it has been since its release date, the harder it has become to come across an authentic CD from the true first pressing.

Apart from the same old pieces of advice anyone could receive (doubt groundbreaking bargains and sellers without reputation or decent and proper feedback), when faced with an online opportunity to buy an Origin CD, the buyer should always keep an eye on some specifics which might help determine the authenticity of the item:

* The artwork on the CD itself: fake CDs have distressed and bold logos while authentic ones have finer lines with blurred edges. Also, CD artwork is often off center and doesn't align on bootlegs;
* The font used on the CD's name: some bootleg versions don't have the proper Trebuchet font or proper spacing between the letters;
* Rocky Gray and David Hodges names: they are often spelled incorrectly on the inserts of bootleg versions;
* Writings on the insert: on authentic Origin CDs, they are thinly outlined by black;
* "Hidden track" and Anywhere: an Anywhere outtake sung weirdly by David Hodges can be accessed by manually rewinding the CD back to -24 seconds. Besides that, in track 8, the real Anywhere contains a 40-second sample of Where Will You Go. Fake Origins were often manufactured without the hidden track and/or containing a shorter version of Anywhere (track 8), without the sample of Where Will You Go;
* Inner codes: bear in mind the first and second batches codes were printed on the inner foil ring of the CD without any other codes and were all mirrored;
* The shades of the cover and inserts: please refer to the top of the page to get a glimpse of what a true Origin should look like. Fakes and bootlegs often have a wrong overall contrast with brownish/orange hue or perhaps a crimson tint instead of the typical fiery-stained red;
* The copyright symbols (© & ℗) on the back insert: in true Origin CDs, they are not really the copyright symbols but a "C" and a "P" surrounded by semi-circles just like the "E" from pre-Fallen Evanescence logo;
* IFPI/SID codes: IFPI codes are almost impossible to be duplicated. They serve to identify the plant in which the master of the CD was manufactured and where it was later replicated (produced in large-scale). Authentic Origin copies have TWO different SID codes (one on the plastic inner ring and another one on the foil inner ring). In order to discourage bootlegging, these codes are not widely disseminated. However, as they are the best chance one has to identify false copies from original ones, in case they are needed, get in touch with moderators of Evanescence forums (like EvThreads, for example); they will probably be able to get you in contact with a reputable member who has a proven authentic copy of Origin and might be able to divulge such information.

Also, beware of "signed items". Autographs don't legitimate anything, regardless of having or not "Certificates of Authenticity" or pictures showing when they were taken. The band is probably used to signing Origin copies when they go on tour offered by fans, regardless of being true or bootleg CDs.

Having the hidden track doesn't mean much as well as there was a full batch of convincing bootlegs manufactured at some point without SID/IFPI codes but cointaing the hidden track as well as the inner foil ring code.

Finally, having the right codes on the inner foil ring doesn't mean the copy is legitimate as the right font should be observed. Both IFPI/SID codes and the batch codes were laser printed using the mirrored form of Linotype's ''Facsimile™'' font, which is quite bitmapped/computerized and has its very characteristic "duck" 2 character.

Summarizing, a careful analysis is always advisable, mainly when buying from a seller online. Always ask for high-quality pictures (preferably scans) of the CD, enquire the seller about the IFPI/SID codes (as well as the batch code), hidden track and how the seller managed to get his hands on the CD. Moreover, carefully check the inserts and CD artwork for every little detail.

* The shades of the cover and inserts: please refer to the top of the page to get a glimpse of what a true Origin should look like. Fakes and bootlegs often have a wrong overall contrast with brownish/orange hue or perhaps a crimson tint instead of the typical fiery-stained red;
* The copyright symbols (© & ℗) on the back insert: in true Origin CDs, they are not really the copyright symbols but a "C" and a "P" surrounded by semi-circles just like the "E" from pre-Fallen Evanescence logo;
* IFPI/SID codes: IFPI codes are almost impossible to be duplicated. They serve to identify the plant in which the master of the CD was manufactured and where it was later replicated (produced in large-scale). Authentic Origin copies have TWO different SID codes (one on the plastic inner ring and another one on the foil inner ring). In order to discourage bootlegging, these codes are not widely disseminated. However, as they are the best chance one has to identify false copies from original ones, in case they are needed, get in touch with moderators of Evanescence forums (like EvThreads, for example); they will probably be able to get you in contact with a reputable member who has a proven authentic copy of Origin and might be able to divulge such information.

Also, beware of "signed items". Autographs don't legitimate anything, regardless of having or not "Certificates of Authenticity" or pictures showing when they were taken. The band is probably used to signing Origin copies when they go on tour offered by fans, regardless of being true or bootleg CDs.

Having the hidden track doesn't mean much as well as there was a full batch of convincing bootlegs manufactured at some point without SID/IFPI codes but cointaing the hidden track as well as the inner foil ring code.

Finally, having the right codes on the inner foil ring doesn't mean the copy is legitimate as the right font should be observed. Both IFPI/SID codes and the batch codes were laser printed using the mirrored form of Linotype's ''Facsimile™'' font, which is quite bitmapped/computerized and has its very characteristic "duck" 2 character.

Summarizing, a careful analysis is always advisable, mainly when buying from a seller online. Always ask for high-quality pictures (preferably scans) of the CD, enquire the seller about the IFPI/SID codes (as well as the batch code), hidden track and how the seller managed to get his hands on the CD. Moreover, carefully check the inserts and CD artwork for every little detail.

The "Bring Me to Life" single was commercially released worldwide on April 22, 2003.<ref name=aria50 /> Prior to that—in late 2002—the song was released along with "[[My Immortal]]" on the [[Daredevil Soundtrack|''Daredevil'' soundtrack]] and received radio airplay. The soundtrack release springboarded Evanescence's music into the public's eye for the first time on an international scale. [[Wind-up Records|Wind-up]] did a fantastic job promoting the single by saturating the market with albums, images and the music video. As evident by the sheer number of single releases, this was—and still remains—Evanescence's biggest single. "Bring Me to Life" has been certified Gold and Platinum in many countries.<ref name=ariaplatinum /><ref name=germangold /><ref name=usaplatinum />

From a collector's standpoint, finding most releases isn't all too difficult. It is still possible to find the standard UK single brand new in stores almost 5 years after its release. This single saw the ''only'' release in a cassette format for a non-Asian country.

The cover image is actually 3 photos combined, all by Frank Veronsky. The leftmost photo is the same as the back of ''[[Fallen]]'', the center is ''Fallen''{{'}}s cover and the right image is the photo from the back page of ''Fallen''{{'}}s booklet. This song lasts about the entire span of Evanescence's recording history. Originally released on the original ''Evanescence EP'' in 1998, "Imaginary" has evolved through 7 different versions. Amy Lee wrote the song and it apparently refers to her old room. The song is interpreted as finding a place to escape personal troubles and the outside world.

Amy has stated during an MTV interview in December 2003 that she would like "Imaginary" to be the fourth single from ''Fallen''.<ref name=soldieron /> However, "[[Everybody's Fool]]" was released. "Imaginary" had actually been released as an airplay single in Spain in 2003. The song debuted and peaked at #17 on the charts{{Citation needed}}. "Imaginary" was released in Spain as a very limited edition radio promo single, under the Sony label, in October 2003.

It features an one-track CD inserted in a black cardsleeve with a cover image that belongs to the same photoshoot of [[Everybody's Fool Single|"Everybody's Fool" single]]. It is the rarest non-WUJC single ever released by the band and, for sure, the most valuable one. Online auctions usually reach more than $250 and very few copies have been seen in the past years. Most of them are still in near-mint condition due to the fact they have been stocked all along within Spanish radio stations warehouses.

Imaginary [Live in Cologne (in 2003)] was shown on Spanish Music TV at the same time as "Imaginary" had airplay in Spain.

Described by Evanescence.com as a track "which embraces feeling over numbness".<ref name=evcomdesc /> Amy confirmed, at the world premiere of ''[[The Open Door]]'' in London, England, her soured relationship with ex-boyfriend [[Shaun Morgan]] of Seether was the inspiration for this track.

Before the release of ''The Open Door'', some fans mistakenly believed "Lithium" to be a cover of the [[Nirvana]] song which bears the same name. However, the two songs are unrelated.

At ''The Open Door'' premiere in Milan, Amy said that "Lithium" would be the album's second single.

Amy's description of the song:

Directed by [[Paul Fedor]],<ref name=faceherself /> the video features two Amys, one in the water (assuming the "sadness" role) in a black dress singing to her alter ego in white (assuming the "happiness" role) who, through a process of internal torment, conquers her sadness. The video also features prominent shots of the rest of the band, including new member [[Tim McCord]], all dressed in black.

The band's first debut album, ''Fallen'', was officially released everywhere on March 4, 2003. After the release of the third single, "My Immortal", the album was reprinted in January 2004 in several countries to include the band version of the song as a bonus track. Since the album was such a worldwide success, and digital media was not quite as popular, Fallen still has the most releases out of any of the band's other albums. It also has the most cassette releases, especially in Asian countries.

Several releases remain unknown or impossibly rare to find.
