General Information
Written by: A. Lee, T. Balsamo

The first song Evanescence did for The Open Door.

In issue 88 of "Rock Sound," Amy revealed exactly what the song is really about. She explained how the song is based on "scary experiences." She explained how many nights she was forced to stay in hotels, because a stalker was erm...stalking her. She took part of the title from EvBoard, as her username is "Snow White." The word "Queen" was presumably added because of how a stalker would over idolize a victim.

Amy's description of the song:

"I went through some weird experiences with stalkers. It's weird how it works. My lyrics are so intimate that people feel like they really know me, and I don't know them at all. My privacy had been completely invaded and there were a couple of nights where I couldn't stay at my house. So I wrote a song about it through the eyes of the stalker, and with my perspective, too."

...this song sounds like the narrator is almost about to be raped.

The setting of the song is so off-kilter, it basically arrests you from the first listen. It's violating. It's like the narrator is talking to the attacker, and the attacker is attempting to justify their actions in the chorus ("soon I know you'll see you're just like me."), either to the narrator or to themselves as they attempt to commit the crime.

I'm not trying to say that this song is based on a rape attempt, but the way the subject is discussed, it's very carnal ("all your hands on me/I can't scream", "undress in the dark and hide from you", "now I have you", "there's nowhere to run so let's just get it over") and there are a lot of references to the human body, in addition to a chord progression that's flat-out VIOLATING. You can't listen to this song without feeling at least a little disturbed.

Lyrics
Stoplight lock the door
Don't look back
Undress in the dark
And hide from you
All of you

You'll never know the way your words have haunted me
I can't believe you'd ask these things of me (ever and ever)
You don't know me (ever and ever)
Now and ever

You belong to me
My snow white queen
There's nowhere to run
So let's just get it over
Soon I know you'll see
You're just like me
Don't scream anymore my love
'cause all I want is you

Wake up in a dream
Frozen fear
All your hands on me
I can't scream
I can't scream

I can't escape the twisted way you think of me
I feel you in my dreams and I don't sleep (ever and ever)
I don't sleep (ever and ever)

You belong to me
My snow white queen
There's nowhere to run
So let's just get it over
Soon I know you'll see
You're just like me
Don't scream anymore my love
'cause all I want is you

I can't save your life
Though nothing I bleed for is more tormenting
I'm losing my mind
And you just stand there and stare as my world divides

Say you belong to me
My snow white queen
There's nowhere to run
So let's just get it over
Soon I know you'll see
You're just like me
Don't scream anymore my love
'cause all I want is you

All I want is you
All I want is you
Lyrics
Hold on to me love
You know I can't stay long
All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid
Can you hear me?
Can you feel me in your arms?

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me
I can taste it in your tears

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

Closing your eyes to disappear
You pray your dreams will leave you here
But still you wake and know the truth
No one's there

Say goodnight
Don't be afraid
Calling me, calling me as you fade to black
Developed during the 2001-2002 demo sessions and later released as track #5 on Fallen. Based on a story written by Ben that served as an inspiration for Amy to write the lyrics.

Ben Moody’s Story about Haunted
A little girl around 8 or 9 in a little white Easter dress is walking down a neighborhood street bouncing a little red ball. As she approaches an obviously deserted large house with a sinister demeanor, her attention moves from the ball to the house. Not paying attention to her bouncing, the ball hits the curb and ricochets toward the house. As she chases the little red ball toward the house, the ball picks up unnatural momentum and bounces right into the huge gaping front door. The little girl pauses for a moment, looks up at the house, which now appears to be staring down at her, and cautiously enters the house in search of her little red ball. as she slowly walks into the atrium, she surveys the decaying mess that once was obviously a beautiful mansion. She becomes mesmerized by the exquisite detail of every inch of the banister winding up the seemingly endless staircase in front of her. Suddenly her thoughts are broken by a horrifying commotion. She whips around to run out the front door, but finds only a blank wall where the door once stood. Frightened, she runs down the first hallway she sees, trying desperately to find a way out, but with every turn the world behind her changes, bending to the will of the house, so that even finding a path back to the atrium where she began becomes impossible. Terrified, the little girl sinks into a corner, puts her head in her hands, and weeps.

10 years later....

The little girl wakes up in a panic, now a young woman. Dirty, scarred. She's now clothed in black pants, work boots, and a black wife beater. Her skin is pale and dirty. Sun has not graced her flesh in over a decade. She wakes to find a meal placed on a dirty silver tray before her, just enough to sustain life, just like every morning before. Placed there by a figure she can only see in passing, around a corner, walking through a door.... a figure that has become her only friend, and her only hate. Her entire existence has become nothing but to hunt and destroy this shadow that keeps her here. As she hunts him relentlessly day after day, she becomes lost in the dichotomy of her being. This thing that keeps her here, this person that repeatedly rapes her mind and watches her when she sleeps, has become her only friend. For is this person left, she would cease to exist. For she live only to kill him. But lives only FOR him. Every day the house changes around her, so that every day she wakes in a foreign land. The only constant... is him. She hears his heart beating, she smells him, she can only think of finding him, but he is also the only thing she knows of love. although she does sometimes make her own clothes. In concerts, she often wears a corset and fishnets. Amy used to have a notable piercing on her left eyebrow which she has taken out and had re-pierced a few times, but she took it out for good sometime in mid-2005.

Many fans praise Lee for her refusal to emulate other celebrities by using sex appeal in her music. She has stated on a number of occasions that she would never flash her breasts or engage in other publicity stunts that would draw attention to herself. In fact, in the music video for Everybody's Fool, she aimed to mock such artists by suggesting celebrities who use sex to appeal to an audience are, in fact, merely peddling "lies" (the unifying theme of the music video). <ref name=VH1>Moss, Corey.
In her personal life, she enjoys being a girl. Her clothing style is quirky and marked by her frequent use of not-so-goth clothes (she stated in an interview with AOL that she was wearing "something floral" ). She explains it as a professional thing, saying that her image onstage is so different from her normal clothes because it completes the image; if she were to come out onstage in pink boots and a track suit and sing about despair, it would totally ruin the image.

Fallen Version
Now I will tell you what I've done for you
50 thousand tears I've cried
Screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
And you still won't hear me
(going under)

Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself
Maybe I'll wake up for once
Not tormented daily defeated by you
Just when I thought I'd reached the bottom
I'm dying again

I'm going under
Drowning in you
I'm falling forever
I've got to break through
I'm going under

Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
(So I don't know what's real and what's not)
So I don't know what's real and what's not
(So I don't know what's real and what's not)
Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can't trust myself anymore
I'm dying again
I'm

So go on and scream
Scream at me I'm so far away
I won't be broken again
I've got to breathe - I can't keep going under
I'm dying again

Video
The video is a live-performance/action video and was directed by Philip Stolzl. The video was filmed in Berlin, Germany, but most of it was filmed in Los Angeles, California in May of 2003. It follows the band performing at what can be assumed is a concert in which they’re the headliners, Amy swimming and singing underwater, and Ben being questioned relentlessly by the media (the media’s constant questions about the band’s religious affiliation inspired that part in the video). Evil Dead, one of Ben’s favorite movies inspires the use of the zombies in the video; normal people attending the gig transform into said zombies throughout the course of the video. The underwater scene was Amy's idea. She also designed two of the costumes she's wearing in the video. The crimson corset cost her $2,500, the biggest amount of money she’d ever spent on a piece of clothing. The other outfit had been stitched by Amy herself. "It's white and has a lot of shreds. Amy Lee wrote the song about a previous emotionally and physically damaging relationship. This was the last song written for Fallen and would have been the first single had Bring Me to Life not been put onto the Daredevil Soundtrack. It became the second single.

Fallen Version
Now I will tell you what I've done for you
50 thousand tears I've cried
Screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
And you still won't hear me
(going under)

Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself
Maybe I'll wake up for once
Not tormented daily defeated by you
Just when I thought I'd reached the bottom
I'm dying again

I'm going under
Drowning in you
I'm falling forever
I've got to break through
I'm going under

Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
(So I don't know what's real and what's not)
So I don't know what's real and what's not
(So I don't know what's real and what's not)
Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can't trust myself anymore
I'm dying again

I'm going under
Drowning in you
I'm falling forever
I've got to break through
I'm

So go on and scream
Scream at me I'm so far away
I won't be broken again
I've got to breathe - I can't keep going under
I'm dying again

I'm going under
Drowning in you
I'm falling forever
I've got to break through
I'm going under
It reminds me of something someone who died would wear.” The idea of them came to her while she was nursing an illness in a hotel in Los Angeles.
